Birthday 71 Is a Mere Week Away

My Sunday evening is upon me, and I have yet to register with a new web host in order to start brand new versions of my two websites MyRetirementDream.com and Thai-Iceland.com. Both had been on a single account at HostGator, but that web host put them offline ─ along with three other websites that I had on the same account ─ quite early this past week.

The two options presented to me by HostGator to get them all back online were essentially unacceptable to me as I have already detailed in recent posts, so I cancelled my account after more than a decade with HostGator.

I also went to the two registrars where the website domain names were on file and I relinquished 'ownership' of the other three websites (Siam-Longings.com, AmatsuOkiya.com, and LatinImpressions.com). All three had been rejected by Google Adsense years back, so they were not generating a cent in affiliate income; retaining them seemed senseless.

The two websites that I did retain will both have their domain names transferred over to Porkbun where domain renewal fees are the cheapest on the market ─ by far, insofar as I know. I have already transferred Thai-Iceland.com because it was set to expire later this month at the registrar where it was on file.

MyRetirementDream.com is not due to expire until next August, so there is no immediate rush. I won't go ahead with the transfer until I have a new web host where I can get the website running once again.

Note that I abandoned their respective databases at HostGator because they were enormous, and because I plan to launch into an entirely new direction with them both.

Today I cancelled the account I had for a sixth website that was with JustHost ─ Google AdSense had long ago rejected that website as well, and it was serving no purpose other than costing me a lot of money for monthly hosting fees.

As well, I relinquished the domain at the registrar it was on file with, for it was also coming up for renewal.

And so from six website domains, I am now down to just the two. But I have to soon get them back online somewhere before Google AdSense sniffs out the fact that they do not exist as websites and rejects them from being allowed to display AdSense.

But where to turn? I just cannot quite bite the bullet and take on a new web host. That initial hosting subscription is going to hurt where my monthly pension and my credit debt are both concerned.

My younger brother never came home last evening ─ for the second consecutive Saturday, he remained with his girlfriend Bev and spent the night at her home.

However, I was so involved with  online research that I never got to bed early ─ it was at least 11:15 p.m. before I tore myself away from my computer.

I wanted to get out early this morning to do some grocery shopping at least 1¼ miles from here at the nearest outlet of Save-On-Foods (Google map) in Whalley. I don't drive, so I have to walk. And since I utterly abhor the busy day hereabouts, I prefer to do my shopping during its first hour of opening from 7 a.m. that is dedicated to seniors, the infirm, and those with compromised immune systems.

I am a senior ─ my birthday is exactly a week away, and I will be turning 71.

Finding myself awake enough overnight to be checking the time, I thought that it was only something before 2 a.m. when I made that check ─ too drastically early to be rising if I expected to later be getting out and hiking away to shop. So I sought to sleep a little further.

That failed. But when I started to reluctantly get myself up, to my delight I realized that my blurry vision had also failed me ─ it was nearing 4 a.m. and not 2 a.m.

And thus I rose and remained up. However, by 6 a.m. I had declined so much that I almost dismissed the excursion in favour of returning to bed.

Fortunately, a cup of hot black instant coffee and a resurgence of will rekindled my enthusiasm. What also helped was how wonderfully dark it still was ─ there didn't seem any sign that daybreak was nigh.

No doubt much of that was due to the heavy cloud cover, for the sky remained deeply overcast all the day. And when at 6:45 a.m. I headed from the upstairs to make my way to the front door, I had to do so most gingerly, for it was perfectly dark here in the house.

It was still plenty dark outside, too. I love it!

I had the monthly expenses reconciliation cheque to deposit that my brother had given me on Friday, so my route was to take me by the Coast Capital Savings building that is nigh a mile from here and over by the King George SkyTrain Station

Both errands were successfully discharged, and I was back home well before 8:30 a.m.

The Sunday morning edition of The Province that I subscribe to never showed up, so I got online to report that fact and request another delivery. While I was so involved, my brother arrived home ─ rarely does he ever show up that early after spending the night at Bev's home.

He even went directly to his bedroom ─ a likely indication that he slept badly at her home (Bev has a wretched smoker's cough).

I soon sought my own return to bed. It was not for very long, but when I rose my brother was already downstairs watching T.V. ─ American football.

Apparently he had something afoot that was going to involve picking up Bev, so soon after the expiration of the noon hour he left to do so. The question now is: Will he be back home before the unspoken 8:30 p.m. deadline that I have for him?

If he fails to make it here by 8:30 p.m., I will get to bed as soon as I detect him arriving. I do not much feel like sitting up late with him and operating our Android TV Box to locate episodes of some of the T.V. series we follow in common. And I say that even though I had another nap in the latter afternoon.

However, if he does show up before 8:30 p.m., as long as he is not insufferably drunk, I suppose I can handle the T.V.-watching, since it will allow me to indulge myself in a can or two of the strong (8% alcohol) beer that I try to keep in stock.

Before it gets too much later, I want to post a few photos, beginning with this commemoration of this day exactly six years ago (2014) when my brother and I attended a sort of family reunion at the property of our younger maternal cousin Wendy and her husband Barry over in the Chilliwack area:

That is me in the top right photo with my cousin Wendy ─ she is featured in two of the other images as well. Unfortunately, my brother is not in any of the five images Google Photos selected for its commemoration.

Nevertheless, here are the five original photos:

Gosh, now my wife is unexpectedly home at 7:20 p.m. I truly do have to take my leave from this post and from blogging for today.
