Stop That!

It was around 9:45 p.m. when I put myself to bed last evening. My younger brother was not yet home ─ in fact, he was to spend the night at the home of his girlfriend Bev, so he never came home until mid-morning today.

Once I finally found some sleep, I was awake enough into the midnight hour to be checking the time, and that was when I rose to get some things done here at my computer as has become my wont.

I had grocery shopping plans for early in the morning at the nearest Save-On-Foods outlet (Google Map) at least 1¼ miles from here, so at 4 a.m. I returned to bed with my cellphone alarm set for 6 a.m. The store opens at 7 a.m., but I have to walk (I do not drive).

It always takes me a long while to fall asleep; so when the alarm sounded, I had benefitted from too little sleep, and I surely felt it. But I hustled myself up into the cold air and was soon downstairs preparing a cup of hot black instant coffee.

There had been some bouts of rain overnight, yet it didn't stop Diwali celebrants from almost as much fireworks activity as was the case on Hallowe'en two weeks earlier. Some of the households must have considerable wealth to observe both evenings with such dramatic flair.

There was one rather remote hotspot that was still blasting off flares or rockets until after 3 a.m., and I heard the final couple of bursts at 3:41 a.m. just before I made that return to bed.

As for my shopping expedition, I have learned that arriving at the store too soon after its opening will necessitate the use of a self-service checkout because a cashier is only rarely on duty that early. I hate those things.

So, partly for that reason, I delayed my departure. However, I did not inted to be starting my hike as late as 6:59 a.m. as was the case this morning.

It was still almost as dark as it had been overnight, but things very quickly brightened with considerable swaths of blue sky. I had a $50 cash ATM deposit to make, so my route took me to the Coast Capital Savings headquarters building over by the King George SkyTrain Station approximately a mile from here.

I accomplished all that I wanted to do ─ except for forgetting to buy organic oranges. Also, it's a good thing that I still have an unopened litre carton of heavy cream for my coffee, for the store had none on its shelves.

I never sought a needed nap after I was back home until well after my brother came home. However, I don't think I managed to be in bed too much over an hour, which was disappointing. Nevertheless, I am managing to adhere to the day's scheduled exercising sessions.

I could have had another afternoon nap, but I decided to wire up on coffee caffeine instead, and hope that having another early evening of things will find sleep to be rather rarely cooperative.

I have had some text exchanges with my wife this afternoon. As I reported in yesterday's post, someone at the Thai restaurant where she works part-time ─ it was evidently a customer ─ reportedly tested positive in the ridiculously unnecessary and unreliable PCR test

I've been reassuring my wife that she need not fear infection. The customer probably doesn't have the SARS-CoV-2 virus, for the test cannot differentiate from any of the coronaviruses ─ even a cold virus will register as positive. And this fickleness is why we have such enormously high, farcical, ever-increasing counts of infections.

So I hope she doesn't seek to have herself tested. As a small concession, however, she doesn't plan to return to work until next Friday, and is somewhere 'self-isolating' to spare putting us at risk; I think she doesn't plan to come home until Tuesday.

Before I close out for today, I want to post this cute image of a goofy and apparently very incorrigibly naughty dog:

 And that's it for today.
