Although yesterday I was up at 2:00 a.m. and at 3:48 a.m. left with considerable vigour on a five-mile round trip hike, that was not the case today.
I rose at something like 2:48 a.m., and felt that I had no time for a mug of the black instant coffee that I had enjoyed yesterday. Perhaps I was also suffering the effects of at least three ounces of Jack Daniel's I had consumed during the evening before getting to bed on Wednesday.
Whatever was at fault, I could not shake a lethargy and fog of mind and body.
I did get out for a walk, but I just had no spunk. I even felt that I walked with a slight stagger.
In all, I may have put in maybe a half mile (or four blocks) at most, making A.H.P. Matthews Elementary School (Google map) my target just so I could do a few pull-ups on some gymnastic-style 'rings' the school has in its playground.
I realize now that I am going to have to take a pair of gloves with me in order to better grip the irregular handles that serve as those 'rings', for they are sopping wet from dew. And since they are of a heavy-duty plastic casing, they are doubly slick.
The gloves may also create a better grip by allowing for a thicker purchase; even when the 'rings' are dry, they are a little too narrow to afford an adult hand the ability to thoroughly encompass and conform to the 'rings'.
So we shall see how my next visit plays out.
I was back to bed by about 5:30 a.m.
Note that this morning my wife only got home soon after I had risen. She works at a Thai restaurant, and said that afterward she was drinking at the home of one of her co-workers. She remained as late as she did in order to try and sober up a little.
On another matter, two former female co-workers want me to join them tomorrow at a White Spot for lunch. I have already prepared them for my failure to show up.
I have risen early in the a.m. for three consecutive nights now. If it happens tomorrow, I will not feel like hiking the mile or more to rendezvous with them midday. I don't like getting out during the daytime anyway ─ especially on school days when schoolkids are all over the place.
As well, with a tip, a simple repast such as a burger and fries can cost a twenty ─ I cannot in particularly good conscience see myself being that extravagant.
Finally, I have my normal weekdays occupied from around 10:00 a.m. until around 1:00 p.m. watching T.V. shows with my younger brother. I am the only one who knows how to operate our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box to access links to the episodes of the T.V. series we follow.
Had the ladies wanted to hook up next Monday, I would have been more amenable. On Monday my brother will be away in the latter morning because his girlfriend Bev has a medical appointment he has to drive her to. And then early in the afternoon, he has a dental appointment. So that day would have been very workable for me.
Or if the gals would only select a weekend for these trysts. But they never do ─ they always choose weekdays, and I just hate getting out during the day. I do not drive, so I have to walk everywhere I go ─ weekdays are just too damned busy out there.
I have some photos with which to round out this post.
Google Photos today created a collage from five photos that were taken three years ago when my wife had gone back to her Thailand home to visit her mother, other family, and friends.
Her digital camera has to have its date setting manually adjusted, and this was most probably not done. Thus, the photos metadata dating is really only a good approximation of when the photos were actually taken.
However, Google Photos can only rely upon what it 'sees', and I expect that the images are imprinted with the date of November 7, 2016.
Anyway, here is the collage:
That is my wife sporting the sunglasses. I am unsure who the lovely young woman with the baby is.
Here are the five original photos, beginning with the top row:
My wife's home village is Nong Soong, which is an approximate 15-minute drive from the city of Udon Thani. Since I was not there when the photos were taken, I can only conjecture that the locations are within that geographical range.
Earlier I mentioned drinking some American whisky last evening ─ I did so while watching the second of a trilogy of Christmas movies.
I have already written about my impression of the first movie ─ a 2001 feature titled A Town Without Christmas. My biggest complaint was how the angel as portrayed by Peter Falk piled lie upon lie, and false denial upon false denial, every time he dealt with the people he was surreptitiously helping.
If angels really could be this deceitful, then something is very much wrong with God.
Angel Max continued his lying ways in this 2003 sequel movie titled Finding John Christmas, but at least he displayed empathic compassion in the later stages of the flick ─ even if it was dry-eyed compassion.
Dry-eyed compassion tends to make me suspicious.
Regardless, I found this second movie to have a greater emotional impact upon me, so I would rate it more highly than I did the first movie. Besides, I have always liked cute-as-the-dickens Valerie Bertinellie!
Can you believe that she turned 59 years old this year?!
I hope to now watch the third movie early this evening, but it is going to have to depend just when my brother gets home from wherever it is that he is presently drinking ─ I may have to suspend the feature and watch the remainder another day.
Since it is already after 6:30 p.m., I had best halt further work on this post and get it published.
By the way, I am watching the movies on T.V. via our Android TV Box ─ and the YouTube 'app' downloaded into it. The movies are all available at YouTube.
