When last I posted two days ago on Thursday, I closed expressing my intention to watch a Chrismtas movie here on my computer while having some drinks.
Well, I did that. My movie selection was 2011's The Christmas Pageant. It was not until I saw the opening credits that I realized who the lead player was ─ "Half Pint" Laura Ingalls (Little House on the Prairie) herself, actress Melissa Gilbert.
I reckon that she was around 45 or even 46 when the movie was being filmed. And initially I didn't think that Time had been particularly kind to her, but I fast grew to see that she was truly quite a beautiful woman.
I liked the movie a lot, for I liked her and the character she played. And it was so novel seeing her in a movie, for I always liked Little House on the Prairie. Yet, even though I see that she has acted in a host of different T.V. movies and appeared in various T.V. series, I cannot lay claim to remembering to have ever seen her in anything other than Little House on the Prairie.
From my quick scan of her Wikipedia article, I was a little surprised to read that she and Sara Gilbert (Roseanne, The Conners) are not blood sisters ─ Melissa was adopted. But that is not made clear in the Wikipedia article on Sara ─ in fact, Melissa is referred to as Sara's "half-sibling" in the Sara Gilbert piece.
Anyway, by the time the movie was finished, I had consumed two cans of strong (8% alcohol) beer and maybe three or four ounces of golden or amber rum. I was quite 'lit', and soon enough put myself to bed.
However, despite getting to sleep readily enough, I was awake again ─ ahead of midnight, I believe ─ and rose. My wife was home by then. And although I remained up until possibly 4:30 a.m. or more, I never put in a 'lick of work' on the post that has taken me far, far too long to complete at one of my two hosted websites. Instead, I had a different project.
Last Sunday afternoon I had ordered a new Android TV Box from Amazon.ca because I had discovered earlier that day that ours was defunct; it would freeze at the T9 logo screen every time I attempted to activate it and have it load.
Well, the new one arrived after dark on Thursday, the 7th. My youngest stepson had gone off to buy himself some fast food somewhere, and when he returned around 6:30 p.m. he had the package in hand to turn over to me. It had been delivered silently ─ that is, it was just left laying in front of the door. There was no doorbell ring, nor knock.
That has been happening with other deliveries that the same lad has recently had come for him after he has placed online orders.
We may have agreed to have our parcels left without requirement of a signature ─ avoiding the signature process ensures that we won't have to go and pick up our orders from some inconvenient parcel delivery service; but we did not okay the service to just dump off the package and take off without alerting anyone in the household that there was a delivery sitting outside!
No wonder theft is so rampant.
Whatever the case, my project after rising was to start downloading 'apps' for movie and T.V. series streaming. The Box already had many 'apps', one of which I had to uninstall in order to download Kodi. I had to do the same thing with our old Box when I first acquired it through Amazon.ca. The 'app' in question is KD Player, and is clearly a knock-off of Kodi. Anyone not too familiar with Kodi would never realize they had a counterfeit with KD Player.
It so nearly resembles Kodi, in fact, that I have had to delete it before my two Boxes could download the legitimate Kodi because the Boxes we've owned just will not install an 'app' that the Boxes believe is already installed.
The SUSAY Android 9.0 T95Q Amlogic S905X2 TV Box that I ordered from Amazon.ca can be seen here, and it has apparently been on the market since 2016. I think that I located the same brand / model at Amazon.com, but the logo on the box is slightly different. The one I have only reads 'T95Q' on the top of the Box, whereas the U.S. Amazon looks like this.
I am very happy with the purchase, although had I not been in such a rush to get it, I would have researched more and instead bought a Box that featured "WiFi 1000M LAN" instead of just "WiFi 100M LAN".
That issue is very nicely explained at the HowToGeek.com article Gigabit Ethernet vs. Fast Ethernet: What’s the Difference?
But at least I ensured that the 4GBs of RAM were linked with DDR4 and not just DDR3 like our previous Android TV Box.
I probably involved myself in about three hours of work getting the Box set up that night, for I was constantly going back and forth from my computer here upstairs, down to the living room where the T.V. is. And of course, I had to keep researching to locate sources for the 'apps' I wanted, since they are not all available through Google Play or Aptoide, the only Google Play store alternative that I have any working familiarity with.
I definitely wanted the five or so main streaming applications that I mainly used with our old Box, but I had gone blank as to what they were all called. So I had to keep reviewing articles about such applications until I came across the ones I recognized as being important to me.
Anyway, this was the main menu that I was greeted with when I first had the new Box load:
It was essentially the same menu that was displayed by our old Box. And when I clicked the APPs option, this was the assortment offered:
As I said, I am very pleased with the Box, even if it isn't Gigabit (or 1,000M) Ethernet conversant, and limited to 100M LAN.
Next time!
We haven't watched too much so far, but I almost think that the videos show up or display a wee bit sharper than they did on the old Box. However, this may only be attributable to how happy I am to be 'back in business'.
Incidentally, I was into a bit of a hangover while engaged in that tweaking ─ I took the above two photos at 1:46 / 1:47 a.m., so I had only just started the task.
After getting back to bed, it still wasn't a cinch returning to sleep. And I was probably back out of bed for the morning by 9:30 a.m. at latest.
My wife had to go to work with an 11 a.m. start, so she rose soon after I did. My brother had already been watching T.V. for some while, as yet unaware that the Box was present and all set up for use. However, he doesn't understand how to use it, so that role is mine alone regardless.
But enough about yesterday. All else I will report is that I retired that evening just ahead of 8:15 p.m., if you can believe it. I managed a few short bouts of sleep, but shortly after 11 p.m. I was done. It was time to forget about any further sleep, for I was only wasting time in bed.
I was soon enough here at my computer getting some work done, but I ensured that I was back in bed by maybe 4:10 a.m. with my cellphone's alarm set for 6:15 a.m. ─ I intended to get away shopping at Save-On-Foods (Google Map) 1¼ to 1½ miles from here. I would be walking (I do not drive), and timing it to arrive sufficiently long past its 7 a.m. opening time so that there would be a cashier on duty. I find that none tend to be at any of the stations until around 7:30 a.m., and I just hate using those self-service check-out stations.
Boy, when that cellphone alarm sounded this morning, I so did not want to get up!
It must have been around 6:30 a.m. when I heard my youngest stepson's alarm going off ─ he had to work today. The lad caught me when I was about to leave maybe an hour later, and actually offered to drive me. Notwithstanding, I declined. I don't think that I've walked anywhere to shop for almost three weeks. I've been too involved 'celebrating' the holidays.
Once I was out and on my way, I rather regretted that declination of the ride ─ the day was already too bright for my liking. I far prefer the anonymity of the night. I even considered aborting the trip.
But I had my brother's monthly expenses reconciliation cheque to deposit ─ I believe that it was nearly $250. So I felt that I should at least get that done ─ over at the Coast Capital Savings headquarters (Google Map) next to the King George SkyTrain Station. That's almost a mile from here.
Fortunately, once I managed that at one of its ATMs, I found the resolve to continue with my journey to shop. And everything worked out.
My brother was already up and reading the Vancouver Sun when I got back home. I subscribe to the Saturday morning edition.
Normally on weekend mornings, I do not watch T.V. with my brother. But I decided to make an exception this morning just to watch some anti-pandemic videos beginning with the latest from libertytalkcanada's Odessa Orlewicz. We watched it on the YouTube 'app' that I have in our Android TV Box, but this is Odessa's second YouTube account. Her first account was shut down, so the one we watched the video at will likely incur the same fate; and so there is no sense linking to something that is most probably just temporary. Thus the BitChute link.
The mainstream platforms do not long tolerate dissemination of the truth concerning the false pandemic nor the deadly vaccines that are wholly unnecessary.
I followed up that video with one from Laura Lynn Tyler Thompson. This time, I did use BitChute, logging into it via one of the browser 'apps' that are downloaded into the Box. The specific video was from January 6 and titled You're Locked down, they are on Vacay! Plus BC Covid updates.
If her guest Guy Annable is correct, two-faced Prime Minister Justin Trudeau may have jetted off to the Caribbean on December 31 for five or so days. Justin will turf any of his underlings who get outed for holidaying outside of Canada when they all have imposed a nationwide scamdemic lockdown, but such things and penalties evidently do not apply to him ─ if Guy Annable's research about Justin over that period of time is accurate.
I had to halt the video halfway through it because my brother had gone upstairs to ready himself. He would be leaving anon to go to a bar to watch an early afternoon NFL playoff game featuring his favourite Seattle Seahawks versus the Los Angeles Rams.
I have just now checked to see what that outcome was, and clearly my brother will have been most unhappy ─ the Rams ended Seattle's playoffs run with a 30 - 20 loss. So this football season is over for them, alas.
Heck, I've now just watched a 10-minute 'highlights' video of the game, and now I'm feeling a little depressed as well. In fact, I don't even feel like blogging any further today.
Maybe a beer or two along with some T.V. are in order....
