Remembering My Four-Day Fast of 40 Years Ago

It doth appear that I shall be unable to take advantage of the absence of a functioning Android TV Box this week and be able to get away in the predawn to do some grocery shopping ─ normally I can do no such thing during the workweek because of a self-imposed obligation I have to be watching T.V. with my younger brother at 10 a.m. when I put our Android TV Box into action for three or so hours.

Our Box died in the wee a.m. hours of this past Sunday, so I ordered a new one through Amazon.ca that is "guaranteed" to arrive here by tomorrow. It had been my thinking that meantime, I might manage to get away afoot (I do not drive) to arrive at the targeted store very soon after its 7 a.m. opening, but that was also contingent upon my wife not having spent the night.

With her home, I would be unable to bustle about in the readying of myself that is required for any such lengthy venture (a 5.625-mile round trip); nor would I be able to facilely make a return to bed when the inevitable weariness descended upon me following any such shopping expedition.

Those were the two conditions enabling me to make the hike on a very early weekday morning: no obligation to later be watching T.V. with my brother; and the absence of my wife.

But she has shared our bed each night now since unexpectedly arriving home around 12:20 a.m. early Monday. I cannot remember when she has last spent so many consecutive nights here (such is our sorry marriage).

I am typing these words at 9:49 a.m., so it is quite possible yet that the Android TV Box will arrive sometime day, a day ahead of its projected delivery tomorrow. Thus, if it does show up today, then tomorrow I will be back to watching T.V. with my brother at 10 a.m. and unable to have gotten away to shop earlier that morning because I would direly need to be back to bed in the latter morning ─ not sitting up watching any T.V. (my brother doesn't know how to operate these devices, so that role is exclusively mine).

But even if the Box does not come today, it may well be that my wife ─ bless her ─ will again be sleeping here come tonight.

I would never have believed the lady would so unknowingly but effectively cancel out my shopping plans like this.

As is quite usual for me, I was up for most of the overnight from just before midnight until maybe 4:30 a.m.; and one of the tasks I dealt with was the reproduction into my private blog of an old journal entry from this day in 1981.

I had claimed here in yesterday's post that back then, I had fasted for just over three consecutive days ─ i.e., maybe something like 76 hours at best.

Well, in reproducing the old journal entry that I made on this day back in 1981, I was most surprised to read that somehow I had gotten through a day four of fasting. This is nothing that I have ever remembered ─ I have always believed that I barely exceeded three full days.

How could I have lost accurate memory of the full duration of that hard-won experience? After all, I was never to attempt anything like it ever again. I only intermittent fast now on a 16:8 cycle "(16 fasting hours cycled by 8 non-fasting hours)" ─ I have been doing so since the past Summer.

Actually, I often have less than eight non-fasting hours. But to think that I had gone for four consecutive days back in 1981 without any calories ─ and strictly by choice ─ truly impresses me now!

Sometimes I read about things I was able to do when I was so much younger, and I almost wonder, "Who was that guy?"

oooooooooooooo

My wife went out a couple of times today, the first time being when she had to keep an 11:10 a.m. medical appointment. I took that opportunity for a needed nap, for I had declined unusually markedly ─ in fact, I have not felt particularly able the entire day. My eyes especially are in poorer shape than usual, as if they are ill rested and I am bordering upon a migraine aura.

I found it needful to lie down again around 4 p.m. I almost forgot that I had to complete this post.

This was my younger brother's day to bus off and hook up with drinking buddies at a pub, so he is unlikely to be home by 9 p.m.

We've had a little sunshine today, but there was still a predominance of cloud such that my brother took an umbrella with him 'just in case'.

My Android TV Box did not get delivered a day earlier than projected ─ I had rather thought and even hoped that it might show up today, but that's okay. I can wait.

I'm still researching what Box I will likely be ordering from AliExpress.com in the reasonably near future, but I haven't the time to get into that discussion with my wife here at home.

And that said, I am going to close right here.
