My Wife and I: Our Tax Returns NETFILEd

My evening is already upon me, but I have just finished biting that ol' bullet and finally gone through the process of NETFILing the 2020 tax returns for my wife and I through the free Canada Revenue Agency (CRA)-certified tax preparation software GenuTax

I have been 'sitting' on them since using the software to complete the returns maybe three or so days ago.

Of course, I can only accept GenuTax's word that the returns were filed ─ I have no confirmation E-mails or anything like that from CRA.

So now we wait.

At least I was able to save .pdf copies of our two returns ─ I have not looked them over, but mine is listed as being 17 pages in length, whereas hers are 34 pages.

I don't quite understand that variation, but I assume that it has to do with extra schedules relating to the fact that she has employment income whereas I am retired and only have pension income; and I gave her the full claim for medical expenses and charitable donations because she has the onus of a whopping income tax-owed situation due to hardly any income tax being withheld at source from her income last year ─ not even $600 on a total income of over $30,000.

So she now owes over $1,600, while my refund basically matches it, oddly enough, with a few dollars remaining.

But we need my refund for upcoming annual bills relating to the utilities, home insurance, and property taxes that must be paid between early this month and early July. Her tax debt is going to have to wait.

She has remained home all day thus far as I type these words at 6:29 p.m., so I haven't the free time to blog ─ especially after taking so long figuring out the NETFILE process, for I also signed up with CRA for a "My account".

The buggers sure make things difficult. Heck, I can't even complete the process until I receive a code from them by freaking snail mail, which could take 10 days.

Anyway, this feat of NETFILing has been the sole reason I am posting here today ─ I want it on record.

Now I must hope and maybe pray that my refund arrives in approximately two weeks as I seem to remember having read a few days ago as the estimated processing time when NETFILE is used. We shall see ─ it will be easy enough to remember, since today is April 1st. If the money is not into my account by April 15 ─ mid-month ─ then the estimate was bogus.

And we may have some fairly serious financial issues on our hands.
