Despite what I had assumed, evidently my wife did not go shopping in the latter afternoon of yesterday after she had shown up unexpectedly awhile earlier from wherever it is that she stays on the weekends in Vancouver. She did not return here until something like 1:17 a.m. this morning.
Yes, I was up. I had gone to bed early last evening ─ possibly before 9:20 p.m. after earlier abandoning my unconscious younger brother in the living room around 7:40 p.m. He was to have to do without benefit for the remainder of his evening of our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box that only I am able to operate.
I get so fed up with his alcohol-enfeebled brain's inability to sustain awareness because it will once more cost me having to rewatch a good portion of one of the episodes of a T.V. show I had tuned in for us via the Android TV Box.
Normally that rewatch would have occurred late this morning, but my brother and I have been following the FIFA Women's World Cup matches ─ one is generally televised at 9:00 a.m. (our time), and a second game at noon (again, our time).
Since the wonderful Canadian women failed to match their impressively taller (overall) Swedish counterparts in the noon game (a Round of 16 match), and Canada was thus turfed from the competition, my brother and I may not be quite as involved in whatever games follow from here on in.
So perhaps tomorrow morning we may be back to watching our T.V. series again ─ we'll see.
I did not easily fall asleep last evening, and what sleep I did achieve before I rose around 12:30 a.m. was broken. I rose when I did so that I could get to work on the day's content assignment for the post I have in progress at one of my six hosted websites.
And so it was that I was up from bed when my wife arrived home less than an hour later.
My return to bed was perhaps around 4:20 a.m., but still my sleep was miserably poor. And just after 8:00 a.m. I was unable to bear being abed any longer.
Midway through my website post work, I had taken a break to perform a five-minute plank, but this one got extended to just over 5½ minutes.
Perhaps these five-minute planks are becoming easier to endure now that I have been doing them as of June 14th. It's still a considerable strain, but one that I am growing accustomed to.
We had some rain that began early last evening and lasted into this morning. The afternoon became a mix of Sun and cloud. If not for having to blog, I could probably have gone outside into the backyard and done some sunning as of the mid-afternoon.
I want to quickly return to that Canada / Sweden FIFA game today, and express that I am truly proud of our magnificent Canadian girls despite them having now lost two consecutive FIFA games and having to leave the tournament.
A lot of weight was put upon Janine Beckie for failing to make the penalty kick that would then have tied the game for us today, but I liked her kick. The Swedish goalie just happened to guess correctly which way to leap to block the ball.
I also don't care for the speculation that Christine Sinclair would have performed better ─ I've noticed in her performance during these games that she has been kicking either too wide or high where that crucial net is concerned.
My brother and I will likely continue to watch more of FIFA this time around just to keep up with which teams are surviving. I don't really have any further favourites, for I like a number of the European teams still in the contest ─ I even like the Netherlands and Sweden, the two teams who beat us.
In addition, I think both my brother and I have this selfish desire to see the U.S. team also get humbled since Canada's team can't participate any longer.
It's no fun being the only one of the two major North American teams to get knocked off the perch.
As I said, it's rather selfish to feel like this, I well know. But Canada and the U.S. are highly competitive where sports are involved. As a result of this...if we can't be there, it would be good to see the States also get some perceived deserved comeuppance.
There is little else to report on concerning my day. My wife had to work ─ she had an 11:00 a.m. start at her friend's Thai restaurant, so I ensured at 10:00 a.m. that she was alerted in bed as to the time.
She left on her drive just after 10:30 a.m., at which time I believe that it was still lightly raining.
I went out to the backyard toolshed during the break between the day's two FIFA games that my brother and I watched, and I tackled the exercise session scheduled for me there. I had noticed two young fellows wearing backpacks who were alternating visits to each house in the cul-de-sac that we live in, so I expect that my brother had to deal with one of them whilst I was in the toolshed.
I never asked him about it, so I have no idea what they wanted. Each of them seemed to have some sort of handheld device.
Both of my stepsons had to go to work this morning ─ I was probably sleeping when the eldest rose around 6:00 a.m. to start readying for his day. The youngest left quite soon after I had risen ahead of mid-morning.
I will also mention that I am still essentially broke, thanks to my wife's waywardness Thursday night after she finished work and went to a casino nearby where she works. After the monthly mortgage was thereafter debited from our chequing account, I have been left with a mere $14.17 in the balance, and $10 in my wallet.
In other words, I cannot do any shopping until my monthly pension gets directly deposited at some point later this week.
And that leaves me housebound, for shopping is essentially the sole reason I have to get out and walk anywhere (I do not drive). There is no such thing as walking for pleasure ─ I am too private. Being abroad on foot in this part of overcrowded Surrey is naught but stressful for me, so I remain home.
I finish with just a few photos that were taken a year ago when my wife was in Italy to visit a sister of hers who has basically made that country her home.
This is my wife in the first photo. The digital camera's metadata says these photos were taken on June 7 (2018), but that can only be an approximation. The camera's date setting had not been adjusted for the trip, and it may not even have been adjusted since our last time change earlier in the year here in the Pacific Time Zone where we live:
One final thing meriting mention is my brother. He headed off for the afternoon after that second FIFA game and would soon enough be drinking somewhere, I expect.
Since he never napped (although he did retire to his bedroom during the break between the two games), I cannot expect him to sustain consciousness all evening even if he arrives home at a reasonable hour ─ which he may not.
If he does show up before I write him off around mid-evening, then I will restart that T.V. series' episode that I cancelled out of last evening. But if he delays coming home until after mid-evening, I won't even bother with him. Instead, I will remain here upstairs and seek another early evening.
