My younger brother is already home from wherever he had been drinking, so I have no time to post.
Little has gone my way this weekend, unfortunately, and today was particular ineffectively spent. I can attribute that to the arrival last night ─ just after 10:00 p.m. ─ of my brother and his girlfriend Bev.
Had he come home alone, I would have remained here upstairs and gone to bed, leaving him to amuse himself. But for her sake, I went downstairs to operate our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box, for my brother cannot do so, and Bev always comes here to watch a movie and have some drinks with my brother and I.
The movie turned out to be one my brother wanted to see: The Old Man & the Gun.
It was a rather interesting film, but overall it was discouraging. It had no happy ending ─ how could a movie that was about an incorrigible bank robber who refused to stop robbing banks have a happy ending?
Anyway, I was up until nearly 1:30 a.m.
All else I will mention is the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Final match between the Netherlands and the U.S.
The game was televised here with an 8:00 a.m. start, so I was up around 7:40 a.m. to tune it in. To my surprise, my youngest stepson actually came to join me and even watched the entire game.
My brother did nor get up to join us until the second half of the game had begun. Bev never got up until it was all over with.
I hoped that the Netherlands would be able to perform better than they did ─ they definitely did not deserve to lose 2 - 0. The first goal the Americans got as a result of a penalty shot on goal was unfair, for I felt that there should not have been a penalty called.
Yes, the Netherlands player kicked high to try and connect with the ball before a U.S. player could get to it, and the Dutch player's foot missed the ball. However, it was not her fault that the U.S. player then ran into the Dutch player's elevated foot and leg ─ which is exactly what happened.
The Dutch player did not direct her foot at the American player. The American arrived at the same spot immediately after the Dutch player's foot was already into the air ─ the actions of both parties were that close.
The Netherlands did not deserve to lose by more than a single goal.
I felt so strongly about this that when the U.S. got their second goal, an awful pall of gloomy despair overwhelmed me.
And remember ─ it was the Netherlands who gave Canada's team the first of our two losses which combined to put us out of the tournament. So for me to feel so sympathetic as I did for the Dutch team should say much.
I have no more time for this post ─ I at least said what I most wanted to.
