I was eager to get to bed early last evening once I saw that my younger brother was not to be home before 9:00 p.m. And since I had not napped that afternoon, I felt good about my hopes of finding sleep before my wife showed up from working at her friend's Thai restaurant.
I may have made it to bed before quite 9:10 p.m.
An hour later, I think that I may have been close to falling asleep, but my wife intruded into the bedroom for something, probably quite newly home. I wear poor earplugs and a makeshift blindfold, so I am not entirely oblivious to my environment, and intrusions such as hers are not unnoticed.
It may have been another hour after that that she came to bed, and still I was not deeply into any sleep. Neither did my wife sleep all that well, for once she rose for awhile.
I think that it was possibly around 2:00 a.m. (if not earlier) when I decided to get up to put work into the post I am padding out at one of my six hosted websites. I remained up until shortly after 5:00 a.m., having earlier performed a 5¼-minute plank.
In all the while I was up, my wife visited the bathroom at least once.
Some further fractured sleep ensued in time following my return to bed, but I rose anew by 9:00 a.m. at latest. By then, my brother was downstairs watching T.V.
I remained upstairs at my computer until the approach of 10:00 a.m., and then I finally went downstairs to fix up my day's first hot caffeinated beverage, and with that I joined my brother in the living room to put our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box to work to fetch up episodes of some of the T.V. series we follow.
My wife had actually risen right after I did, but she returned to bed. However, she finally got up to stay at something like 9:40 a.m. to begin readying for her workday. We have maybe three inches of snow, and it is well below freezing; and she has quite a drive to get to work for her 11:00 a.m. start. Even ahead of 3:00 p.m., here in Surrey where I live it was supposedly around -8ΒΊ C. (17.6ΒΊ F.).
When my wife was set to make her drive to work, I took the following seven photos of her outside at 10:18 a.m.:
I watched T.V. with my brother until shortly after 1:00 p.m., and then he sought some bed rest ere heading off in the freeze to catch a bus to take him to wherever he would be doing today's drinking.
While he was resting up, I wanted to see if I could withstand today's scheduled exercise session out in the backyard toolshed. I turned back once ─ it seemed too miserably cold out there. But resolve was to get the better of me, so I finally did make my way out there in heavy boots, and a thick suede leather jacket that I had on over my fleece pullover and t-shirt.
The session out there was rather token. For one thing, the quite thick metal bars I use to perform some pull-ups and chin-ups were too cold to hold onto for long, and I was heavier than usual with all of my extra wear. I simply wanted to keep my body acquainted with the strain those movements require, for I am 70 years old and exercise layoffs quickly result in degeneration.
Once I was back in the house, I managed to finish my day's first small meal before my brother emerged from his bedroom; and then after he had gone on his way, I indulged in a nap ─ by then, I think that it was likely around 3:10 p.m. or later. It was not to be a very long nap, but when I came out of it, I felt more like just calling it a day and going to bed proper instead of getting myself up.
I even felt like an eyestrain headache might not be far off without adequate restorative sleep.
However, I resisted the urge to remain abed, as I said. For one thing, I had a blog post to make both here and in my private blog. I have already completed the private blog post, so I want to bring this post to a close as well and get it published. My evening is already upon me and I never know just when my brother will return home expecting us to watch T.V. for the evening.
Maybe he won't make it by 9:00 p.m. and I can again get to bed early ─ this time to actually sleep before my wife shows up and delays sleep's arrival.
Ere I make my departure, I would like to link to the following article that I came across when I first came to my computer very early this a.m. ─ stories set during World War Ⅱ always catch my interest, and that's especially so when it is dark and cold outside.
The article is at Narratively.com, and was evidently published six days ago: The Deadliest Marksman’s Cold, Brave Stand.
