Very early Sunday mornings are when I typically go shopping. I am passionate about avoiding the public as much as possible; and since I do not drive and must walk, Sunday mornings (and statutory holidays) are when I schedule these expeditions.
I have not gone grocery shopping in at least a couple of weeks, so that was the plan for today. However, due to sitting up with my younger brother last night, and not getting to bed until well beyond midnight, that and the prospect of undertaking a long hike in the couple or more inches of old snow that pervades everywhere were deterring.
The two stores I usually frequent are distant ─ the nearest may be nigh 1½ miles off. I like them partly because they both open at 7 a.m.
However, there is a local No Frills store (Google Map) about four blocks from here which opens at 8 a.m.; and since it was already after 7 a.m. when I made my first time check this morning, that became my somewhat reluctant choice.
It was still dark when I made that time check, so I had no expectation that it was as late as it was ─ I nearly opted to seek further sleep instead of peeking at the time.
Thankfully I only travelled as far as I did! Although the temperature outside was hovering around the freezing mark, I found everything outdoors to be frozen when I left here just after 8 a.m. Even the bare road must have had a damp surface with the coming of last night, for each step found my foot kicking back somewhat whenever I took a step. Forget about trying to walk anywhere that had the snow beaten down by constant foot traffic or else street traffic ─ the compressed snow was now pure ice!
I could never have handled hiking very far ─ this was challenge enough.
Compounding matters were a sunny and mostly clear sky that betokened a day which would likely see very little melt, unless the daytime temperature rose quite dramatically.
But at least I shopped, and now there are a few grocery items that no one else has bothered to buy, even though everyone else drives. We haven't had any fruit except bananas here in over a week, so I bought apples and oranges.
I was not to watch any morning videos with my younger brother today. He opted instead to watch an NFL game because one of the teams is his girlfriend Bev's favourite ─ the Green Bay Packers. I expect that he did not want to be uninformed when they hooked up this afternoon.
It was a quiet day at home for me beyond that morning outing. I considered making the hike to my credit union's outdoor ATM to deposit the monthly expenses reconciliation cheque that my brother gave me a few days ago, but I would not wish to make that journey until after dark so that I could benefit from both public anonymity, and a reduction in public bustle.
Unfortunately, after a sunny day, temperatures dropped, and I have decided that footing would be tricky due to frozen irregularly trodden-upon snow on the uncleared sidewalks, and the ice from compressed snow and today's melt. The ATM is a mile or so distant, so I do not feel much tempted for the outing.
I think that I shall instead watch a Christmas music and have some dark rum.
Before I stop blogging for today and publish this post, I want to link to a post I made this past Summer that got censored or "unpublished" by this platform: August 6, 2021 ║ π☠π☠π☠ My Wife and The iCon Group.
Since I cannot republish the post in this blog, I am forced to do so at one of my two hosted websites that are ─ I hope ─ out of reach of the forces behind this censorship. Most of the post was so banal that it is pathetic anyone feels the need to have it pulled or banned.
Anyway, that's all for today.
