Enhance Your Brain with Gotu Kola (Centella Asiatica)

I believe that I was into bed last evening by 9:33 p.m. I will detail why in my old private blog

I was expecting my wife home at some point after her long workday at her friend's Thai restaurant, but she often doesn't show up until well into the a.m.

I remember once checking the time shortly after 1:00 a.m. and feeling upset at myself for already being awake, for I felt awake enough to have gotten up to work upon the day's content assignment at the post I have in development at one of my six hosted websites.

And then I remembered how early I had gone to bed ─ bedtime had not been during the midnight hour as it most commonly is for me. Thus, I had actually gotten a couple of hours of sleep at the very least.

But I didn't get up ─ I forget now if my wife was in the house then or not.

I managed a bit further sleep, and then was awake again. I was awake when my wife at last came to bed, for once the light was off I checked the time, and saw it to be 2:32 a.m.

I decided to wait until she had likely fallen asleep, and then get up. However, I may have lapsed into some sleep myself, for it was possibly around 3:40 a.m. or more when next I looked at the time. So I eased myself out of bed and gathered up my clothes; and soon I was at work on that post.

My eldest stepson rose ahead of 6:00 a.m. to ready himself for his workday, and soon enough left on the drive. I completed the content assignment, but then I dallied in wasteful dissolution before finally taking charge and bedding down on the floor here in front of my computer to seek some more sleep ─ I do this to avoid disrupting my wife's sleep, since she usually has to rise for her drive to the restaurant and her 11:00 a.m. start.

It was already at least 8:08 a.m., but I set my cellphone's alarm for 9:59 a.m. to ensure that my wife did not sleep in.

I napped but briefly, and was awake enough to be checking the time again about an hour after I had bedded down. However, I remained where I was until considerably after 9:30 a.m. before getting myself up.

When I emerged from this room, I found that my wife was already in the bathroom. But she swiftly exited, and headed downstairs saying something about snow.

It was falling thickly outside!

She had planned to go to the Thai temple in Burnaby, but the heavy snow dissuaded her. Nevertheless, her ultimate decision was not settled upon without prior vacillation as she struggled in making up her mind.

When the decision was made, she returned to bed.

Apparently she was not going to have to work today ─ I could have returned to bed instead of bedding down here on the floor. Tomorrow is her birthday, so that was probably why she had wanted to go to the temple ─ and why she didn't go to work, either.

But all of that was revealed later.

After she made her return to bed in the morning, I watched some T.V. with my younger brother via our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box. I had in mind a CBC Marketplace feature feature I had recently read about, so I used the YouTube 'app' downloaded into our Android TV Box to locate it: Why buying plastic-free groceries is so hard.

And when that was done, my brother and I watched the final installment of the documentary series we've been following called The Vietnam War. During that feature, my brother pointed out that the snow had halted. It was to lightly rain from that point until fairly early into the afternoon, and then by around mid-afternoon we were getting some brilliant sunshine.

My brother sought a nap during the noon-hour, so I took advantage and went out to the backyard tool-shed and had some exercising out there, It seemed so cold!

A BMX that my youngest stepson was expecting to be delivered this week showed up ─ the 21-year-old was home, so I let him deal with the delivery. However, I suspect that the doorbell probably roused my brother, if he was still napping.

He soon came downstairs, and wasted little time in taking off for the afternoon. And he had no sooner left than my eldest stepson showed up somewhat early from work ─ I don't think that it was yet 2:20 p.m.

Finally, not too much later, my wife emerged from our bedroom.

She invited me out with her and the boys for a meal somewhere, but I need to be well forewarned about this sort of thing ─ I need at least a day's notice. I have to admit, though, that it hurt me declining the invitation, for I am sure much of it was because it was my wife's birthday tomorrow.

The odds are remote that she will be here overnight, so I decided to get together the items I had acquired for her ─ a birthday card, a $20 scratch lottery ticket that was nothing more than money thrown away, and two bottles of different brands of merlot.

I had left the items by her purse where it was sitting on our bed, and had placed them in a plastic bag that I had just happened to scrounge up.

Well, when my wife noticed the bag with the items, she was quite pleased ─ unbeknownst to me, the plastic shopping bag must have been around since Valentine's Day last year, for it had "I Love You" boldly printed across one side. I had simply plucked the bag out of the bottom opening of a knitted pipe-shaped container that my mother must have created once upon a time for the purpose of storing plastic bags.

Heck, maybe the bag was even older than I surmised! But it was certainly a fortuitous find.

I took this poor photo of my wife at 3:31 p.m. as she sat at the dining table scratching that wasted lottery ticket:

And when she decided to model her youngest son's BMX bike ─ he teased her that it was her birthday present ─ I took the following photos at 3:39 p.m.:

The son wearing the glasses and standing by his mother is the youngest lad.

It was not too much after that when the three left to go and have that meal somewhere, leaving me alone here in the house to work on this post.

Such is my sorry, isolated life.

I have a couple of articles I wish to present now ─ both are from the same website source.

I have vaguely heard of a plant called gotu kola (Centella asiatica) before, but that was all I was able to say about it ─ I had no recollection of any of its health benefits.

If the following article is to be even partially believed, folks who are getting on in years could well benefit from its purported brain enhancements:

HSIonline.com

The article stresses not to take the product for longer than six weeks without having a two-week break thereafter, but just what is the so-called "recommended dosages"? Do the claimed benefits accrue by simply following the instruction labels on absolutely any brand that it might come in ─ whether as a "loose powder, tincture, or in capsule form"?

I did an Amazon search at the top of this post, if you are curious about some of those product brands and their cost.

You can find lots of articles about gotu kola, but I will randomly link to three to get you started, if you are at all interested:
And I fear that I am going to have to call a halt to my blogging effort for the day.

My wife and her two sons have since returned home, and I have been lengthily embroiled in a bid with our cellphone carrier to have the cost of my wife's portion of the couples' plan drastically reduced, under the threat that we will seek another carrier and cancel our current account.

This is entirely out of the blue ─ nothing was said to me previously about any of this, so I feel rather adrift with the proceedings. Fortunately, my wife's youngest son is versatile with this sort of issue, since he works at a 24-hour call centre.

He understands what his mother wants, and knows what plans are available and are reasonable, so he has taken over and is conversing with the carrier as if he is me.

Anyway. this has taken far too long, and I am unsure if my wife is even going to be leaving us this evening ─ she may be staying the night after all.

Since it is nearly 7:00 p.m., I might as well call it a day where this post is concerned. My younger brother will be showing up at any time now, and I will have to operate our Android TV Box for the evening (since he doesn't know how to use it).

By the way ─ my wife's birthday is today! And here I was going to await tomorrow....
