The Foreboding over What Comes After My Imminent 70th Birthday

Although I rose in the early a.m. ─ I think that it was possibly around 3:30 a.m. ─ to work on the latest post I have on the go at one of my six hosted websites, I felt too deficient to attempt a plank.

I just did not feel that I had become sufficiently restored through adequate sleep, even though I had gotten to bed last evening by around 10:00 p.m.

I was still up when my eldest stepson rose for work, so I remained up until after he left on his drive to Burnaby (we live in Surrey). In fact, it do belive that it was a little after 7:00 a.m. by the time I made my return to bed.

By the way, it was raining plentifully when I first rose, and the rain was still carrying on well into the morning.

When next I rose somewhat ahead of 9:00 a.m., within the half hour I did engage a plank. However, it was unspectacular.

I had planked for nearly 12¼ minutes yesterday; but today, when I made my first check of the stopwatch 'app' on my cellphone as I endured the strain, it was only a little after eight minutes.

I refused to yield until I had made it past nine minutes, so I bore the agony until I was perhaps 10 seconds past that key mark.

It does puzzle me that lasting for nine minutes like I did today can seem every bit as painfully difficult as it was to make it to the 12 minutes that I achieved yesterday.

I am as of today a mere four days from finally having my 70th birthday. The day thereafter, I am supposed to try and embark upon daily walks in a bid to once again become proficient at considerable distances.

The overnight rain made me leery of what is in store.

I abhor daytime walking ─ especially during the week. I think that I can likely handle day walks on weekends and holidays, but weekdays my walking will most likely have to be done during the darkness of the a.m. hours.

Or at least, I will have to have ventured forth under the cover of darkness ─ while the local world is still relatively peaceful ─ in order to get my walk well underway.

My intention is to develop sufficient proficiency that I will be using the stretch of railway tracks that run between Newton (as shown on this Google map) and Kennedy Heights (again, check this Google map).

The railway tracks at Newton are approximately 3½ miles from where I live, but I can only guess just what the distance is for the span of railway tracks I would (or hope) to follow.

Surely at least three miles? As I said, I can only guess.

And the Kennedy Heights terminus of those tracks is approximately 2½ miles from where I live.

Surrey is not renowned for being violence-free nor particularly safe after dark ─ and I will be 70 years old when I begin these treks.

I am considering the prudence of having self-protection with me, but I am still mulling over exactly what that might entail.

As a result of left knee surgery almost nine years ago, I am no longer a runner ─ I would be unable to flee from any threat of violence, alas.

So yes, I am feeling considerable unease.

That is all I care to speak of for today.
