And here we are ─ the 1st of December. I'll finally be turning on some of our Christmas lights ─ it's going to make watching the occasional Christmas movie after dark even more enjoyable. Alas, though, we haven't had a tree in several years, and I miss that.
I watched a reasonably good Christmas movie late last afternoon and into the early evening via our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box ─ it was a 2004 feature titled A Boyfriend for Christmas.
It was the Cinema HD 'app' that I have downloaded into our Android TV Box that located the working source link for the movie.

The movie started off by showing a few barely teen girls in a mall talking about boys, and I immediately expected that this was going to be the focus of the movie ─ that is, one of the girls would be singled out as a main character and the whole plot would centre around her and her hopes for a boyfriend.
But no.
Oh, it did focus on one of the girls and her inadvertent talk with a mall Santa Claus after she had kindly accompanied a younger girl (whom our young heroine did not know) who was far too timid to approach jolly old St. Nick.
He extracted from the older girl that if she could have a Christmas wish, it would be for a boyfriend.
I'll say no more ─ you can read all about the movie at that Wikipedia article I linked to.
Rather coincidentally, the actresses who played the young main character and the adult main character 20 years later in life both have the same first name: Kelli.
The younger actress is Kelli King, and she was at very most 12 years old in the movie. Today, she is 27 years old. A little over three years ago, she received some injuries after the bicycle she was riding to work was hit by a semi ─ if curious, you can read about this in an article at DailyMail.co.uk.
The actress who played the adult main character is Kelli Williams. If I have ever seen the lovely actress in anything she has acted in before, I have no memory of it. Nevertheless, her character in A Boyfriend for Christmas was most definitely a keeper, so the premise of the main male character finding her irresistible and wanting her forever in his life was one I readily embraced.
I have included the movie in the list of movies I will rewatch around Christmastime when my younger brother brings his girlfriend Bev here for what is coming to be our annual two-day Christmas movie binge.

I finished the last of my Alberta Premium rye whisky while enjoying the movie; and then when the feature was finished, I readied myself and headed off to see if I could find one of those lighted window Christmas ornaments to complement the two that we have, which are a Santa and a frolicking Rudolph ─ the pair can be seen in this photo from December 15 last year:
I've seen such window displays advertised as being lighted Christmas window silhouettes.
I wanted to get something like a Christmas tree, or a star or snowflake, or even a wreath or Christmas (carol) bell.
I knew that Bed, Bath & Beyond sold these things, but the only outlet near me (at Surrey Place / Central City) approximately a mile away was listed by Google as closing at 7:00 p.m., and I wasn't leaving here on my walk (I do not drive) until several minutes after that hour.
Even so, I had to pass right by that mall, so I checked ─ the mall was indeed closed, apparently forcing Bed, Bath & Beyond to also close then. Other outlets of the same chain hereabouts were listed by Google as closing at 9:00 p.m.
So the store lost my business ─ and probably all because a major mall closes at 7:00 p.m. on a Saturday evening during the Black Friday / Cyber Monday weekend.
How bloody stupid is that at this time of year with Christmas so near?
I had expected the closure, as I said. So I continued on for maybe another quarter-mile to a nearby Canadian Tire. They typically have lots of Christmas wares, but I had checked online and could not find one of those "silhouettes". And so it was ─ I found none in the store.
Had I found what I was after, I intended to buy one or two other Christmas items. But since I could not buy what I had come for, I obstinately refused to buy anything and instead I visited the Save-On-Foods store adjacent to Canadian Tire (Google map) in Whalley and bought a few groceries.
I only learned this morning that I could have visited the Walmart at Surrey Place / Central City ─ they have their own access independent to the mall, and were open. They stock the window displays that I was seeking.
Live and learn!
I see that Walmart opens at 7:00 a.m., so I may attempt an early visit this week ─ maybe even tomorrow. However, my feet ─ and especially the two longest toes of each foot ─ are very painful from a walk I undertook this morning for some further grocery shopping.
I headed off before 6:30 a.m. to visit a Real Canadian Superstore outlet (Google map) that would normally have been something like a 5.625 round trip hike. Unfortunately, I mistakenly believed that it was located along 108th Avenue instead of 104th Avenue ─ in other words, a half-mile farther from where I live.
But not only that ─ before giving up and returning to 104th Avenue, I had kept walking 108th Avenue nearly a further half-mile than I would have needed to travel had I been on 104th Avenue.
Ultimately, my round trip walk turned out to be 7½ miles instead of 5.625 miles.
My toes became so badly compressed against the ends of my boots with every step that by the time I was back home, I had practically hobbled the last couple of miles. I think that I am going to have some discoloration under the base of the toenails of the affected toes where I suspect compression bruising has taken place.
This afternoon I put on a pair of runners just to do a few things around the house outside, and the sensitivity of those toes is such that I am presently unable to do any walking in footwear. Thus, I would be most amazed if I rise tomorrow morning with toes recovered enough to undergo a two-mile round trip hike.
So we shall see.
By the way, yesterday I finally published a post (at my website Latin Impressions) that I had spent most of November putting together: Pen Funny Ⅱ.
All that long work, yet I bet the post will hardly ever receive a visit.
Well, I'm in considerable need of a lie-down, so I am going to get this blog post published. All of this unaccustomed walking to do some shopping seems to have exacerbated my lower back as well as my feet ─ each time I get up after any prolonged sitting, it is impossible to immediately stand erect.
Sure, I'm 70 years old...but I'm not quite ready to be assuming a senior citizen's stereotypical bent-over posture!
