I had an early bedtime last evening. It was around 9:10 p.m. that I heard my younger brother arrive home from the bar he would have been drinking at, and he was breathing so loud in his drunkenness that I could hear him where I was seated here upstairs at my computer.
I needed no more convincing ─ I hustled straight to my bed, not intending to become embroiled with him.
Just before I had come here upstairs, I had watched an episode (the sixth of the very first season) of Parenthood that I thought was exceptionally well acted. Once again, I found myself almost agog at how beautiful and alluring Lauren Graham was in her acting heyday.
Perhaps and most likely she still is, but I haven't seen anything of her in recent years.
Anyway, I drifted into and then out of some sleep after getting to bed, and perhaps shortly after 10:30 p.m. I rose to micturate. By then, I knew that my wife was home, for she had earlier come into the bedroom and left the table lamp on at her side of the bed (I wear earplugs and a bandana blindfold).
When I cautiously opened the bedroom door, I saw that the room where I keep my computer (just next to our bedroom) also had its light on ─ my wife was undoubtedly within, using the device. My brother was downstairs planted in front of the T.V. in his recliner.
I had my relief and returned to bed; and eventually my wife came to bed, too.
Moor poor sleep came and went; and then perhaps at 1:30 a.m. or awhile thereafter I found myself awake enough to decide to rise and put more work into the post I am developing at one of my six hosted websites.
It was not until around 5:00 a.m. that I returned to bed.
Yet I was up anew just ahead of 9:00 a.m. My brother had not yet risen, but I soon enough heard him do so ─ he always showers in his en-suite shower room before exiting his bedroom.
I remained upstairs here at my computer until just ahead of 10:00 a.m., then I went downstairs to soon join my brother at the T.V., and to put our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box into operation. I intended for us to watch the third and final video by John Douillard in a series on Ayurveda breathing techniques proven to enhance nitric oxide development: Enjoy 15x More Nitric Oxide Benefits with Humming (Brahmari Pranayama).
As with the other two videos that were watched by us last week, he made no complaint.
Another show we were to watch was the extended or double-episode series finale of The Big Bang Theory. It was quite touching at the finish, but I was hoping that we were also going to see some of the real life final moments of the cast together, basically saying goodbye.
I will miss the series. I tried an episode of Young Sheldon, but that version of Sheldon Cooper was nothing at all like the young Sheldon that was always described through episodes of The Big Bang Theory.
The Young Sheldon kid is a fully confident and self-assured youngster who clearly has never tasted what it's like to be bullied ─ unlike the kid the adult Sheldon has always reflected upon in the reminiscences of his childhood.
Consequently, as far as I am concerned, the new series is not about the childhood that the adult Sheldon ever went through, so I haven't the vaguest interest in bothering with it.
I detest cocky kids anyway.
Now that my wife is working part-time, I am never quite sure if she is supposed to be getting up around 10:00 a.m. like she had to do when she worked full-time. Thus this morning, I did not bother rousing her when she remained abed well after 10:00 a.m.
However, it seems that she did have to work (the restaurant opens at 11:00 a.m.); she finally emerged from our bedroom around 10:15 a.m. to have her shower.
My brother and I were to watch our shows until at least 1:30 p.m. before he finally sought some bed rest ere he was to head off in the afternoon to start drinking again somewhere. While he was in his bedroom, I went out to the backyard toolshed for the exercise session I had scheduled for out there today.
It was so warm in the sunshine streaming through the open shed door that I could easily have exercised bare-torsoed. I even had fleeting thoughts of sitting out in the sunshine, but I knew that this blog and my private blog would require all the time I am able to afford them, for I still needed an afternoon nap before I could start on them.
But this is extremely irritating to me. After all, it's not as if I am actually earning any kind of an income by blogging ─ I am just throwing away many hours daily of my dwindling lifespan.
As far as I could tell, the day was entirely cloud-free.
But let's touch upon COVID-19 briefly. I must say that I am getting quite fed up with all of the panic.
When my brother emerged from his early afternoon bed rest, he said that his girlfriend Bev had phoned him to report that she was now laid off because she works in the bar section of a bowling alley, and whoever runs it decided to suddenly shut down because of the virus.
Granted, this has more to do with a newly enacted provincial health proclamation prohibiting venues from doing business if they are able to have as many as 50 people on the premises.
Bev does not receive vacation or sick pay as far as I know, so her only hope is to qualify for Employment Insurance (E.I.).
As SurreyNowLeader.com reported today:
Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said on Monday all gatherings of 50 or more people must be cancelled. Last week, Henry had called on all events and gatherings with more than 250 people to shut down.
I have no idea how things will stand at the successful Thai restaurant where my wife works. She has already applied for E.I. sick benefits because her part-time status is due to some sort of harm one of her arms is suffering, probably from the repetitive stress involved in kitchen work.
A doctor prescribed the reduction in her working hours.
I suppose if the restaurant is to be forced to close, at least my wife already has an E.I. claim in process that could be switched over to regular E.I. benefits.
Gosh, it's already 7:20 p.m. ─ I must stop work now, and start paving the way for another possible early evening bedtime.
