Despite possibly being up yesterday since just before 1:30 a.m., I remained up after putting work into the post I am building at one of my six hosted websites, and at 6:44 a.m. set off for the Real Canadian Superstore outlet (Google map) nearest to where I live here in Surrey.
Had I adhered to roads, my round trip walk would have been 5.625 miles. However, I got adventurous ─ especially on the return journey ─ and after following 146th Street to 101st Avenue (Google map), I decided to see if I could attain 96th Avenue by following trails from that point, and on through Green Timbers Park / Green Timbers Urban Forest (Google map).
In looking at that Google map of the park, I think that I must have entered via the trail at the 14300 block of 100th Avenue (Google map).
At least I knew enough to steer clear of the direction of the lake ─ that was not my way home. Anyway, suffice to say that I feel confident that I logged in at least six miles in my round trip hike that morning.
And since my shopping was rather substantial in weight, the tote bag I had everything in became a challenging load. As well, my toes became very pained from constantly being compressed against the ends of my boots.
Let's just say that in total, my aches and pains were such that I was talking to myself and cracking jokes before I was even halfway home, and of course my condition grew progressively worse as I travelled.
It's actually disheartening how out of shape I am for distance walking.
It was well past 9:00 a.m. before I was back home, and I was wretchedly stiff and sore. In fact, when I had put down my tote bag in order to unlock the front door, it took me a few seconds to manage to bend all the way over to pick it back up ─ my damned back and knees were that painfully stiffened.
I had hoped to give my newly acquired blood flow restriction bands a try that afternoon, but I was just too overworked. And I did not return to bed that morning until a little after 11:00 a.m.
My younger brother had spent the night at the home of his girlfriend Bev, so he arrived home around 10:30 a.m. When I rose from my nap into the latter noon hour, I was surprised to find him gone for the afternoon.
I spent some of my afternoon working on my eldest stepson's 2019 tax return, and I think that I can now enter the figures into the good copy. I also wanted to work on the tax returns for my wife and I, but I was too burned out. I needed to lie down again just after 6:00 p.m.; and when I rose anew over an hour later, I had myself a very hot bath.
My brother finally showed up again around 8:00 p.m., but he was plastered. Apparently he then had issues with getting the T.V. to work, and I heard him rousting my youngest stepson for assistance.
Then once my brother finally started watching something, I noticed that he had seemed to have passed out. And he remained so for quite some while.
I was to bed by 9:30 p.m.
My brother and I never had occasion to speak to one another throughout the entirety of Sunday.
My wife showed up in the latter evening of Sunday well after I had gone to bed, but I cannot say that I recall when it was that she came to bed.
I rose around 2:00 a.m. to put work into our tax returns, and then eventually realized that I could not continue because she did not give me any idea on what she wanted to claim for tips (she works at a Thai restaurant).
And so here it is now at 4:27 a.m. early Monday morning, and I need to get back to bed. However, I retired last evening without brushing my teeth, so I feel that I must not avoid it any longer.
And I reckon I've said what I feel I need to for the present.
oooooooooooooo
It is now 5:18 p.m., but before I go any further, I want to mention the movie my brother and I watched ─ on Friday morning, I think.
The previous week, we had finally watched the final episode of the T.V. series Deadwood, so by Friday (if that was indeed the day) it had come time to watch 2019's Deadwood: The Movie.
Now, although the movie was supposed to be set 10 years after the events of the series finale, the real chronological span of time was even longer ─ the final season of Deadwood was back in 2006, after all.
So it was more like 13 years.
Some of the actors playing the Deadwood characters were almost unrecognizably older ─ the physical changes in them were quite drastic. But was there some 'makeup department' action involved in those changes, or had the actors indeed aged that poorly? I have no idea.
The same speech pattern was used in the movie as characterized the series ─ that is, everyone seemed to speak as if they were making a speech, and using as much highfalutin verbiage that I frequently could not follow what the hell was being said. I really hated this ploy. Conversational exchanges would take place, and I did not have a clue how the participants could have possibly understood one another.
But notwithstanding, it was good to see the characters for one last time; and I could well imagine how it must have been for series fans who had waited since 2006 to finally see the 2019 movie.
When I return to watching Lost in Space (I've only seen the first season), I will have to pay attention and see if I can now actually recognize Molly Parker (whose Deadwood character became the town's first banker) in her role as the Lost in Space character Maureen Robinson, Will's mom.
Although I can sit here now and envision much of her character from the first season of Lost in Space that I have probably not seen in a year, the Molly Parker from Deadwood just does not match what I can remember of the character Maureen Robinson.
By the way, I had no idea that Molly Parker is "a native" of Maple Ridge, as Wikipedia says. I live in Surrey, not too very far from there at all.
But back to my day!
This morning I joined my brother at 10:00 a.m. to watch T.V. (I operate our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box when I feel like sparing him any further basic cable television). My wife usually rises around then to begin readying for her workday if she has her normal 11:00 a.m. start, but she remained in the bedroom.
It must have been at least 10:40 a.m. when she finally emerged and went into the bathroom; and when she finally came downstairs, she was all dressed to leave on her goodly drive to the Thai restaurant ─ it was already around 11:00 a.m., and she looked somewhat 'rough for wear' (she had been doing some drinking last night).
Since she is still away, I suppose that she is putting in a full day (she just recently went to part-time hours for health reasons).
I only had an opportunity to point out to her that I needed to know her status on tips before I could proceed with the completion of our tax returns. She professed to have no time to discuss that now, and said that she would be home tomorrow for us to figure something out.
So that was it for my tax accounting for today!
My brother never did seek a nap, so it is very likely that I will not be watching T.V. with him this evening ─ he will probably be over-drinking and have no hope of retaining consciousness once he gets home this evening.
He set off quite soon after 1:30 p.m. ─ it's possible that he had some official purpose, and was not in a rush to hook up with any drinking buddies. He had been on the phone earlier, and mentioned to me that something was going to cost him $700 ─ I didn't ask what. I just quipped that he oughtn't to have answered the phone, then.
However, I think that it relates to the three-month driving suspension he has been enduring since fairly early in December ─ he must be approaching its expiration. But to get back on the road will necessitate numerous financial penalties, including having to pay for mandatory alcohol management classes and for the installation and rental of an ignition interlock device.
At least with an ignition interlock device, he will not dare to drive anywhere to do any drinking. He will instead have to continue walking and using public transport.
But I wish to move on and get this post completed, and clear the way for a potential early evening to bed.
I would like to post the following two photos that I took of what I suppose is a mini iris ─ the only flower to have bloomed as yet this year on our property:
I took the two photos on a whim on February 26 at 2:20 p.m. in the afternoon.
I also want to briefly mention my blood flow restriction (BFR) bands that I received on February 27 from AliExpress ─ I still have not tried exercising with them, if you can believe this.
I did, however, apply one to my upper left arm today just to see how easily it could be done, and then I did a few curls with a light dumbbell.
If I did not have some exercising scheduled for today out in the backyard toolshed, then I would have exercised with the bands. However, the toolshed exercising includes some chin-ups / pull-ups, and I have not done any of those since Friday.
At my age of 70, laying off from exercising results in extremely fast losses of strength and ability, so I felt that I needed to tackle the shed exercises more than I needed to experiment with a first-ever session of BFR training.
I found myself a little stronger than usual ─ no doubt because I only exercised yesterday by walking. That day off was my first in quite a number of days, so I evidently required the break.
Incidentally, the day has been wet. It seems to have lightly rained for most of it, as well as overnight.
