A Day-Long Vague Headache

This is a rather 'down' day for me ─ I've been experiencing a vague headache ever since the onset last night in the wee a.m. of a migraine halo or aura soon after I had risen late in the midnight hour.

I had gone to bed around 9:15 p.m. despite my younger brother having come home just ahead of 9:00 p.m. from wherever he had been drinking. I still had the T.V. on when he arrived, but I was upstairs here at my computer researching something.

I had overeaten at my supper, and was feeling uncomfortable ─ I did not at all care to be sitting up watching T.V. with him. Besides, if I was to watch the usual three episodes of series we follow, it would have likely kept me up until midnight. I just didn't feel I had it in me.

And then when he came upstairs to use the bathroom and commented, "Still up, eh?" as he passed by this room, I recognized that he was drunk. He confirmed it for me when in returning from his relief, he stopped to chat about a skunk he had spooked when he was arriving home. He believed it to have hustled off to the house immediately next to ours, and gone beneath that house via some hole he believed he saw.

His entire presentation was one of inebriation ─ even his face looked ruddy, and his eyes beady.

I had attempted to say something about the neighbour's house's foundation, but my brother just droned on right over my words with no interest whatsoever in my contribution ─ only his words had any importance.

So when he went back downstairs, I made the decision to get right to bed. And as I was settling in, I could hear him then engaging my eldest stepson about the skunk.

I was to get to sleep in due time, and never cared enough about the hour thereafter until I checked it perhaps around 12:48 a.m. ─ I wanted to rise and put some more work into the website post I've been slowly developing.

My wife was by this time downstairs, having come home from her workday at her friend's Thai restaurant. She was fussing in the kitchen and talking with her eldest son, and then she betook herself to the dining table to eat an ambitious snack she had prepared for herself.

I had come downstairs for some coconut oil with which to brush my teeth as I lay upon the chesterfield ─ this task can easily take me 15 minutes. Meanwhile as I was so involved, my wife finished her snack and went upstairs and was soon enough to bed.

It was while I was brushing my teeth in the darkened living room that I recognized the onset of that damned migraine halo.

Despite it, I was to get to work on the website post anyway, doing my best to ward off the halo attack. Once one of these nasty things becomes full-blown, vision becomes wholly impaired and reading is impossible even if the halo victim wanted to read.

I don't suffer migraines ─ I have never had one, unless the cruellest of hangovers can qualify. But I have begun experiencing these debilitation halos or auras within the past two decades. The first time may have been 16 or 17 years ago.

For me, they are concomitant with the combination of inadequate sleep and eyestrain; and I have even had them set in after looking outside into the brilliant glare of day when my eyes have not had the benefit of proper sleep.

Although I do not suffer from migraines, I am left with a damned vague headache for a day or so after one of these aura attacks even when they are not severe as was the case this early a.m., for I was able to work through it and supply the targetted amount of content that I wanted to add into that website post.

Of course, sitting up and not getting back to bed until nearly 5:00 a.m. was also abusive. And once to bed and eventually asleep, I was awake again and checking the time no later than 8:30 a.m., choosing then to rise for the morning.

The morning was heavily overcast; and quite late into the morning, it began to rain. This carried on through the first couple or so hours of the afternoon.

I watched some T.V. with my younger brother from around 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. or soon thereafter, at which time he headed on back to his bedroom for some rest ere heading away in the afternoon to eventually resume his drinking somewhere.

I had considerably declined by the time we finished our T.V.-watching, but my wife had not yet risen ─ I did not wish to disturb her by returning to bed, so I came here to my computer. But I had no sooner done so when she emerged from the bedroom and went into the bathroom.

And so I bided my time until she vacated the bathroom and went downstairs, at which point I hustled into the bathroom to use it and then I got myself back to bed ─ fully clothed.

I suppose that I managed to remain abed for an hour or possibly a little more, and even napped a little. It helped, but I rose with the notion in mind that I would likely return to bed properly if my wife was going to be leaving to put in some time beginning in the latter afternoon at her friend's restaurant.

So I fixed up my day's second hot caffeinated beverage; and then perhaps around 3:00 p.m., my dear wife did indeed announce that she was leaving, at which I hurried downstairs and went outside with her to see her off.

After she was gone, it seemed to me unlikely that I would be capable of dealing with the day's scheduled exercising out in the backyard toolshed, but I finally did give it a go. And to my surprise, I actually fared a little above what amounts to be average for me.

Thereafter, I finally had my first meal of the day ─ reasonably light; and I have since resisted trying for that considered nap. If my brother is going to be late getting home this evening, I would like to be able to hustle myself to bed early and find myself easily able to sleep ─ so to that end, it is best that I resist napping.

And wow! I had no idea on the time! It is already well past 7:00 p.m. ─ I did not even realize that my evening was upon me.

Clearly, I will not need an early nap ─ I plan to be in bed by 9:00 p.m., so I shall have no difficulty holding out until then.

But...will my younger brother show up in the meanwhile? If so, then I will probably watch some T.V. with him if he is in acceptable condition. I am the only one of us who is able to operate our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box to locate episodes of the many T.V. series that we follow. On his own, he only has access to basic cable television programming, along with my youngest stepson's Netflix Canada account.

I guess I will know in relatively short order what is in store for the remainder of my evening.
