Upgrading My Laptop Today from Windows 7 to Windows 10 (for Free)

Despite how I concluded yesterday's post here, I was to have no exercise. Just as I was proofreading the post prior to publication, my wife arrived home and was to remain here until mid-afternoon today when she left to go to work at her friend's Thai restaurant.

She got me embroiled early last evening in trying to update a Windows 7 laptop of mine that hadn't been plugged in for a number of months. She also wanted me to rid it of as much unnecessary software and downloads as possible because of how infernally slow the machine is.

I never used the machine for that very reason.

Even in trying to delete something, it would take 15 minutes or more to finally do so. The Windows 7 update I was trying to install also failed.

Progress with the uninstallation of programmes was so wretchedly slow that I was still at it when my younger brother arrived home around 8:40 p.m. ─ I had meant to get to bed if he was not here by 8:30 p.m.

And since I was using the Internet connection for our T.V.'s Android TV Box, I had to stop my work with the laptop and reattach the cable to the Android device.

I was to sit up with my brother until around midnight before getting to bed. As a result of my late evening, I was unable to rise overnight to work on the new post I have begun at one of my six hosted websites. However, I did reluctantly rise around 7 a.m. to at least do some work on it.

After my brother rose toward mid-morning, I had declined to badly that I just lay here on the floor in front of my computer (which I keep in a small room next to my bedroom). I didn't know if my wife would have to go to work later in the morning or not, so I did not care to disturb her sleep by returning to our bed if that was to be the case for her ─ she sleeps poorly.

The day was overcast. We had some rain overnight; and even during the day there must have been some, for at times I would notice that the street appeared wet.

I joined my brother at 10 a.m. for some T.V. via our Android TV Box, and we were to be so involved until perhaps 1:20 p.m. when he finally sought some further bed rest ─ he was to leave home afoot awhile into the afternoon to catch a bus, for he had arranged to meet up with one or two of his drinking buddies at a pub or tavern for some fairly serious drinking.

As a result, he will definitely not be home by 8:30 p.m. this evening. And with my wife away working, I will be able to get to bed early ─ I never did get a nap this afternoon.

Nor did I exercise. Once my brother sought his early afternoon bed rest, I got back to work on that darned laptop.

Ultimately I was able to uninstall Avast Antivirus, for it seemed required to do so before I would be able to be rid of the data-heavy Avast Secure Browser that absolutely refused to be uninstalled.

Once that tandem pair of programs were gotten rid of, unistallations proceeded much more swiftly with other downloads. And even the Firefox browser was reacting relatively smartly ─ the laptop's browsers had been so sluggish that it would take many minutes for one to even just load.

Making searches with a browser...well, between waiting for one to load and then to react each time I performed a search, it could consume up to a half hour.

Everything is so much better now.

But at present it is nearing 6:45 p.m. and I am still not done my work. Believe it or not, I am essaying the free upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10.

I have been involved with this since 4:30 p.m., if not even earlier.

This constant 'babysitting' of the laptop has denied me a nap or any exercising ─ and this is my consecutive day without even tackling any type of exercise whatsoever.

By the way, the reason my wife got me involved in this laptop restoration is because she wants to try her hand as an agent for a certain specialty Thai brand of instant coffee that claims to have a number of health benefits.

And she wants to have the laptop to that end, for she is not often home with access to a computer.

I found that when I upgraded this computer from Windows 7 to Windows 10 around the start of this year, it seemed to function better. So I am hoping that this will also apply to the laptop.

Anyway, with the termination of further updates to Windows 7, I am not comfortable about my wife trying to conduct business using that operating system.

Obviously the upgrade may yet fail on the laptop, but it has been running along nicely with the lengthy process so far. I just hope that I see success before 8:30 p.m. ─ I want to be getting to bed soon thereafter.

I also want to have a bath, so maybe I will stop further work on this post and take care of that chore now.

Incidentally, I have been hearing some light rain falling for quite some while as I have worked on this post.
