Sometimes Your Freedom Is Not Taken Away at Gunpoint

The rest of the usual quote goes: "Never allow the government—or anyone else—to tell you what you can or cannot believe or what you can and cannot say or what your conscience tells you to have to do or not do."

My Christmas movie selection early last evening was 2015's Northpole: Open for Christmas. That IMDb link yields a clip of the movie far sharper than the video source that I was able to locate via our Android TV Box ─ the quality was very poor. At least a couple of the superior links that I did find were dubbed in another language, so I discounted those as sources.

I was in bad shape emotionally when I went movie hunting, so I was looking for an emotional meltdown. And this movie did not appear that it would be providing what I was after ─ the movie was clearly targeted for children.

However, thanks to the last of the golden rum I imbibed from the bottle that I bought last Monday, I was eventually able to tap into my sorry life experiences and had myself a good breakdown.

Young actress Bailee Madison has certainly gotten a lot of roles in her relatively short life, and to me she always seems of a type ─ an unnaturally buoyant and guileless personality. However, in this movie as one of Santa's troubleshooting elves sent to help a businesswoman (played by Lorie Loughlin) find her fullest Christmas spirit, I had to get over being annoyed by her endless bubbling and smiling positivism. She practically skipped everywhere, too ─ her bounce was a little more than what I wanted to be subjected to.

But who can be made at Bailee?

I did not know this until I began work on this post, but Bailee's elf character (Clementine) was introduced in a predecessor Christmas movie from 2014 titled Northpole

I'm not going to seek it out to watch ─ certainly not this Christmas period, anyway.

It has been so long since I have watched Lori Loughlin in anything that I am unsure if I would have recognized her if I had not seen her listed in the opening credits. Nevertheless, she was so darned attractive in relation to her potential love interest played by actor Dermot Mulroney that it just didn't quite work for me ─ he appeared to me to be much older than her, even though the actor only has about nine months on her.

What a dreadful photo of Lori in Wikipedia! Did they use it to deliberately further smear her as a result of that wee legal issue that she ended up spending two months in prison for?

That bottle of rum that I finished was 750 millilitres, but it only lasted me long enough to watch four different Christmas movies. Considering that I paid something like $21.99 for it with taxes over that, each of those supposedly free movies actually cost me over $5.50 apiece!

I am not going to replace the bottle ─ I cannot afford that much indulgence.

Anyway, after my younger brother was home later that evening from his daily socializing, I had something different lined up for us to watch ─ last year's 1½-hour Kingdom: Ashin of the North.

We both had previously watched the South Korean T.V. series Kingdom independent of one another, so it seemed fitting to watch this final 'kick at the can'. I ensured that the source I selected was dubbed in English, and there were several of them. However, for some bizarre reason, the couple or so of them that I tried did not have any of the text translated into English, and lots of the movie had explanatory Korean text appearing throughout the movie to inform the viewer about events, time passages, places, and so forth.

We benefited from none of this, and thus effectively watched the movie in a vacuum of any detail concerning what was taking place.

I had been thinking that Kingdom: Ashin of the North was the finish of the series (thus my 'kick at the can' reference above), for I read somewhere that the episodes were simply far too expensive to continue with. However, I have just found a September 23, 2022, article at MovieWeb.com that claims that there is going to be a third season coming; and Wikipedia claims that there is also to be another special long episode: "A second special episode on the Crown Prince is reported to be in the works and scheduled for release in 2023."

All great news.

As for the character Ashin as played by actress Jun Ji-hyun ─ what a merciless killer she had become! It is difficult for me to imagine how anyone could care to keep living who has such a joyless attitude about life and her fellow human beings.

The movie or feature seemed to dispel whatever maudlin mindset that held sway over me earlier, and I became more stable. And even though I drank a further two cans of the strong (8% alcohol) malt that I seek to keep in stock, and finally got to bed around 12:30 a.m., I set my cellphone alarm for 4:30 a.m. so that I could rise early for some grocery shopping at the nearby Save-On-Foods that opens at 7 a.m. ─ I intended to preface the shopping with a good walk.

When my alarm sounded, I felt more ill slept than usual when I rise early like this. And when I went downstairs to boil water for a black instant coffee, one of my two stepsons was at the computer in the boys' den area ─ I suspected that it was the eldest lad, the 28-year-old.

I wanted to be on my way ahead of 6 a.m., and I managed this successfully ─ possibly by nearly 10 minutes. By that time, whomever had been resisting his bed had finally retired to it.

It was dark and clear-skied out, with more stars than tends to be usual for the night pollution hereabouts.

As always, early into my walk I essayed six sets of pull-ups and chin-ups at an elementary school playground early into my walk, and I had weighed myself before leaving home while I was dressed exactly as I would be for the exercising ─ I was around 197 pounds.

Believe me, it was a struggle managing four repetitions in the first set, for I am now accepting that as my new norm after having previously attained that many on three consecutive occasions. The equipment was perfectly dry, but damned cold. I exercised bare-handed regardless.

I also managed the usual two repetitions in each of the subsequent five sets; but again, I had to writhe my whole body to achieve them, much as some swimmer moving underwater. Sometimes some foot-fluttering was even required for effecting higher elevation.

I wish there was a regulation chin-up bar to use. The narrow bars at the playground are just too difficult to use. In terms of four repetitions, by the time I am halfway through them, my grip is loosening, and the last repetition is almost being performed with just my fingers cupped over the slim bar.

Nonetheless, once all are done, I always feel quite invigorated. I needed that this early a.m. because it was very chilly with a bit of a cold wind blowing.

I live in north Surrey, and my plan to extend my walk and use up time was to follow the trail at 140th Street & 100th Avenue (Google Map), working my way through the Green Timbers Urban Forest to where a trail comes out near Green Timbers Way & 96th Avenue (Google Map).

Well, it was still entirely dark when I got to the start of the trail. Even so, I ventured down it for some ways, and then decided that I ought to go back because it was just too dark to see without a flashlight. I did have one, but I don't like using it ─ I mostly bring it for protection because it is also a stun gun. To use the flashlight for the full distance of the trail would likely deplete the battery power such that there would not be sufficient charge remaining for activation of the stun effect.

So I started back, but I then saw that someone was rapidly advancing down the same trail, and who was using a light. Who other than me is stupid enough to be walking a forest trail in the dark?

I did not care for this coincidence at all ─ my suspicion was that it was someone who had witnessed me go down the trail without a light, and was now in pursuit. As I said, this person was moving quite fast. And even if he was entirely innocuous, it was always possible that it was someone walking an unpleasant dog.

I felt compelled to return my attention to forging ahead on the trail, and walking with a very fast pace. I even considered a little jogging, but withheld myself. At times, I used my flashlight when there was something suspiciously dark on the trail ─ at one point I encountered a dead tree that had fallen across the trail, breaking up in the process. Without my light, I would have had a bad experience there.

I succeeded in losing sight of my follower; and by the time I was halfway along the route, the Eastern sky was lightening enough that I could quite easily see the trail. The surface of the trail is not dirt ─ it is a type of very fine pea gravel, I suppose. Thus, it is lighter than its surroundings and relatively easy to follow in mere gloom.

There was nothing much else warranting any mention, and I got my shopping done with cash and was likely home by 8 a.m. To my bit of surprise, the same stepson seemed to be up again and back at the computer.

Once all was put away and I had come upstairs, I did not waste too much time before returning to bed because my bedroom was quite cold due to an open window; and in addition my eyes were manifesting the deficit of sleep that they had enjoyed overnight.

I have to declare that I very much enjoyed my time abed thereafter. And when I got a little further sleep, and saw that it was a little after 9 a.m. as I lay semi-conscious and luxuriating in the comfort of bed, I decided that I could hear the T.V. on downstairs ─ only my brother would be watching it. We had not watched anything together yesterday morning, so I wanted to give him the opportunity of resuming our usual morning routine.

I went downstairs and fixed up a proper instant coffee with the works this time, and soon enough got his invitation to put our Android TV Box into play.

We were to only watch two videos, for a little after 11 a.m. he wanted to return to his bedroom to rest up for a short time ere getting away early into the noon hour to hook up with his girlfriend Bev and probably head over to a pub to begin watching NFL games.

The first video was something under a half hour in length, and was an upload on Friday to Rumble by Christopher James Pritchard (A Warrior Calls): AI Dominion Games Ep 5: Combat Sportsbook Murders.

I honestly cannot see that there is anything to this theory proposed by David Hawkins, but I know nothing of what he is speaking about.

The second video was also a Friday upload to Rumble, this time for 55 minutes and by the Children's Health Defense: Financial Crimes, COVID + Con Artists With Whitney Webb + Dr. Jessica Rose.

The episode covered a lot, but primarily seemed to focus on the recent FTX collapse, and the primary personalities involved.

My brother was to leave for the day before I had yet sought another needed nap, which I did quite late into the noon hour. I think that I was probably down for a little over an hour, but I definitely napped again.

The day has been sunny, and we are in for a stretch of increasingly cold weather over the next four or so days that may well result in some snow. Anyone out after dark is going to be finding it especially frigid.

I still have to make a post in my private blog, but I am first going to have a bath and give my eyes a break.
