Due to misconduct following the publication of yesterday's post, nothing went as had been projected here.
As for my younger brother who had bused away in the early afternoon to hook up with one or two of his drinking buddies at a pub, he never made it back home last evening until perhaps nigh 10:45 p.m.
He was simplistically drunk ─ senile level. Nevertheless, I decided to put our Android TV Box into action and attempt to play an episode of DC's Legends of Tomorrow primarily in order to justify having a can of the strong (8% alcohol) malt that I attempt to keep in supply. Unexpectedly, my brother maintained consciousness.
We even watched an episode of United States of Tara.
My wife arrived home perhaps around 11:30 p.m. from her long day working at the Thai restaurant where she has part-time employment, but she and I never conversed until after my brother had gone to bed for the night.
She was not hurrying to get to bed because she was only working a half day today ─ the latter half. The restaurant closes for a short time mid-afternoon and reopens at 4 p.m., so she would be able to afford to sleep in as much as she could.
My coughing can still be a nuisance, as is the mucous flow, but as far as I am concerned, I have recovered from the respiratory infection. Is this day 10? ... or 11? I have lost track.
I found myself awake enough to restlessly check the time around 7:15 a.m. this morning after a decent night's sleep, but gave it another hour in a futile attempt to reclaim more sleep before rising for the morning. My brother may have gotten up shortly before 8:30 a.m.
When I joined him shortly after 9 a.m. to watch some T.V. ─ again, through the agency of our Android TV Box ─ the only video we had time for was the continuation of the video that we had bowed out on yesterday at the hour and 43-minute mark: “THEN THEY CAME FOR THE CANADIANS” EVENT.
We still have not finished watching the excellent 5¼-hour feature at TheHighwire.com, stopping today at the four-hour and 8-minute point. My brother wanted to get some bed rest ere taking off for the afternoon once again, and by that time in the video it was in the neighbourhood of 12:15 p.m.
I see that PoliceOnGuard.ca gives a timeline here of all of the various superb speakers, some of whom thus far have been quite rousing and held very little back. In that context, two who markedly stood out in what my brother watched today were lawyer Thomas Renz and Dr. David Martin.
Anyway, my wife had not yet risen when my brother and I stopped watching T.V., so late into the noon hour I sought a nap. When I later checked the time around 2 p.m. and rose, I found that my wife was up and readying for her short workday.
I mentioned to her that I had learned that the shipping company DHL apparently has an office in Central City, which is not much over a mile from where we live.
This is a screen shot taken today of their tracking page for her absentee shipment they were to have delivered, and the description beneath should give you a very clear understanding of what this Central City discovery means to us, for there are only three such offices in all of British Columbia. That one is so near to where we live means that even though enquiries we may make by E-mail or online get ignored, we see now that we are among the few customers who are able to walk right into a DHL office and seek direct answers!
This is a tracking timeline for a 2022 shipment probably valued at $1,500 that my wife had ordered from Thailand.
DHL was responsible for its delivery, and we even paid them $58 towards shipping and duties.
As you can see, there was a Canada Customs (CBSA) "Clearance Event" on April 14, April 21, and finally on April 27.
Enquiries we made once the estimated April 18 delivery date was exceeded kept assuring us that for some reason Customs was backlogged, but we were to keep watching the tracking updates.
Please note that DHL absolves itself of all liability for damages or loss to shipments after 30 days from the time that they take custody ─ which in our case was April 11 (Thailand time).
May 11 came and went, and now two enquiries we have made have been ignored. Today is May 20 (2022).
Was DHL lying about Customs having the shipment and instead it had actually gone missing, and DHL were just lulling us so that the 30 days would pass and free them of any financial responsibility?
My wife wants me to go with her tomorrow to that DHL office and get answers. For example, does Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) provably have that shipment? Or were we duped by not being told in timely fashion that it had been lost because DHL was deliberately edging towards and then past that 30-day financial liability period?
Once it was exceeded, they thereafter felt ─ and continue to feel ─ that they do not even have to answer our enquiries any longer?
We should be less easy to ignore when we are standing right in their offices asking such questions. I am not confrontational, but my wife can be ─ and I will staunchly back her up in this.
The day has been remarkably sunny ─ maybe the nicest day of the year thus far hereabouts. So after my wife left on her rather long drive to work, I decided to spend some time sitting out in the backyard on a deck- or lawn-chair. Earlier I felt that a breeze was too chilly to make being at all disrobed an uncomfortable prospect, so I remained fully clothed but for bared feet.
And so facing directly into the glorious Sun beginning at 3:39 p.m., I spent just over 40 minutes out there. Alas, I found that I could have been wearing nothing but shorts; but I think that the weather is going to be even better over the impending Victoria Day long weekend, so my chance may yet come to colour my pale torso and legs.
My evening is well upon me ─ it is approaching 8:20 p.m. Since I wish to get this post published and indulge in some T.V. (if not a little drink), I want to mention some disappointment I met with early last evening when I sought to watch an episode of Mom ─ it seems that the last episode I had watched was the series finale, and I never realized it!
I will honestly admit that I am going to miss that cast of characters. I even thoroughly enjoyed the final season without cutie Anna Faris.
What I now plan to do is seek out any series the various actors may have become involved in; and maybe I will check out some of Anna Faris's earlier movies. We shall see.
And that's it for today.
