How can this unseasonably cool weather keep persisting? When I rose from an early afternoon nap, the house felt as chilly as if its doors had been left open ─ this is nuts. We had some light rain overnight, and on through the morning until nigh midday.
The only decent thing about the light rain is that if I had a walk scheduled for the early a.m., at least I would not have been under threat of getting soaked out there.
Since I did have no walk scheduled, I waited up last evening until maybe 9:45 - 9:50 p.m. before my younger brother arrived home from his daily 'socializing'. By then I had already finished drinking a glass of red wine while enjoying an episode of Parenthood (I have been watching the series on my own for a long while, and am now finished the second episode of the sixth and final season).
My brother was not stumbling about like a besotted Mr. Magoo, so I watched an episode each with him of three of the series that we follow in common: Chicago Fire; The Man in the High Castle (actually, we were to watch the very first episode in this series, so we are now only newly following the show); and The Conners.
I suppose I slept fairly well by the time I was to bed around 1 a.m., having worked on an E-mail that I did not manage to finish before my brother had shown up in the evening. I rose once after daybreak to use the bathroom, but never rose for the morning until well past 8 a.m.
My brother was later.
When we got together for some T.V. via our Android TV Box not too very long after 9 a.m., I led us off with a 29-minute video at ReturnToReason.tv titled "The Failure of NPI Pt. 1: UNMASKED".
Leon Fontaine walks through statistics, history, and expert opinion to see if Non Pharmaceutical Interventions (NPI) used to "curb the spread" saved lives during the pandemic, and if any harms have been found as a result of their implementation. In Pt. 1 of this 3 part series he explores face masks.
The video was interesting enough, but although Leon Fontaine might be a good unseen narrator, I found actually seeing him to be very distracting because of how exaggerated his narration style is ─ his whole face was constantly involved in the affected narration. It was basically poor theatrics on display ─ he needed to be 'heard but not seen'.
I wonder what his preaching style is as a pastor?
I saw on that same webpage that he has interviewed quite a number of people, but I don't like watching 'old' interviews, and none of his are dated. It's a tactic that I have never liked, for a lot of websites use it with articles ─ the visitor has no way of knowing how old the article is because the sneaky webmaster has that information obscured.
When I am researching something that might be of a technical nature, and I come across such a website, I will often just shut the website right down and not waste my time with it. I want information that I know is up to date and current ─ not something that could be several years old. Ditto for interviews.
The only other video we watched did not get finished, for my brother knocked off at 11:30 a.m. to ready himself for a noon dental appointment. At that point we had gotten to approximately an hour and 12 minutes of a video nearly two hours long.
But it was quite good, featuring a very appealing Alexis Baden-Meyer of the Organics Consumers Association ─ the video had been uploaded to Rokfin.com on April 21, I believe: Biolabs In Your Backyard: Avian Influenza and Biolabs in Ukraine.
Alexis reminded me of the freckled girl (Peppermint Patty) on the Charlie Brown cartoons.
I confess to enjoying watching Alexis ─ a most appealing face, I felt. Maybe my brother and I will finish watching the video tomorrow ─ I would like to see more of her.
He never did return from his dental appointment, so I reckon he must have launched himself right into his daily 'socializing' after the dentist was done with him. Since I DO have an early a.m. walk planned for tomorrow that I will want to be able to rise at 3 a.m. for, I would like to be able to get to bed reasonably early this evening. I certainly won't be drinking more than a beer.
Incidentally, I went into my early afternoon nap under some agitation ─ I had discovered that my wife had pillaged another $500 from what is essentially just my (as opposed to our) chequing account. She has been so damned active with the account that I now have lost track over what she owes back ─ $2,600? $3,100?
I have no idea how she can repay whatever the actual figure is, but she must. I think there may now be less than $500 in the account, and I have bills to pay, and there are going to be scheduled debits happening to the account ─ including one for over $200.
And then there is the monthly mortgage that is supposed to be debited from it on the 22nd.
The woman has got to control herself ─ this is becoming absolutely ridiculous, and even abusive. I only had my monthly pension deposited into the account less than a week ago, and now most of it is already gone with no further income coming until late in the month when my next pension gets deposited!
No bloody wonder I so infernally depressive and negative. I have nothing to live for beyond being a buffer between her and hardship, for my monthly pension income makes me of far more value to her alive than I would be if I were to die.
Yet I have so little else to live for that I often feel that I am just about ready to accept death. Maybe 72 years of life is sufficient, and I should just accept that I am a failed experiment in whatever is the purpose behind God's creation of Man.
Anyway, before I shut down this post for today, I want to post what DHL had to say in as E-mail that arrived for my wife this morning at 10:11 a.m.
I've been making enquiries about the recurring Canada Customs "Clearance Event" activity that keeps delaying delivery of the huge package.
Originally, we were given an estimated delivery date of April 18. But then these wretched "Clearance Events" were listed in the DHL's tracking details section ─ there was one on April 14, then April 21, and finally on April 27.
Why would Canada Customs need to keep recalling the shipment now for over two weeks? It is senseless.
We were promised (on Friday) that we would hear an update from DHL this morning, and here is what was sent:
I hope you are well.
My name is S**** and I’m the back line specialist, who is currently handling your file with subject line a** 4*********.
First and foremost, I would like to apologize for the inconvenience you experienced because of pending delivery.
I have contacted operation to provide a reason for delay and the next proposed delivery date.
Kindly allow me some time, and I will be following up with you on 3rd May 2022, no later than 15:00 EST.
If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Thank you for choosing DHL Express.
So still no real answer ─ just more time lost while supposedly further investigation is performed.
My wife's shipment is valued at well over $1,000 ─ and it is part of her debt to my chequing account. The shipment itself is comprised of health-related products from Thailand's The iCon Group ─ products that my wife had friends and acquaintances express intentions of buying from her. These items are quite popular among Thai people, and by buying them in bulk, my wife was making it possible for her friends to enjoy the items.
So if the shipment has been lost ... or inexplicably seized ... then she has no way of recouping this loss, and I am frankly fu**ed.
