American Girl

Early last evening I was able to watch a very interesting Alicia Witt movie. As I have freely and often enough said before, I am quite enamoured of the actress.

The movie was 2002's American Girl, but I was primarily only able to locate sources that were titled Confessions of an American Girl, so I bypassed those, wondering why there was such a similarly titled movie that came out in the same year

And when I did finally get a source for the shorter title, its opening credits soon revealed the longer title, and I almost shut it down. Fortunately, the opening was enough of a teaser that I decided that I would watch the movie and see how it progressed ─ I could always watch American Girl another time.

The movie began under the narration of a cute teen who clearly derived from trailer trash, and who could not have thought very much of herself because the boy she liked ─ who drove a flashy red convertible ─ always picked her up surreptitiously and made her sit on the floor of the front passenger seat until they had driven out of town so that no one would see her with him.

He was ashamed of her, but she seemed oblivious.

So this was quite the hook where my viewership was concerned ─ I wanted to see more of this teen's life. It was only after she eventually got home that I realized that Alicia Witt was her slightly older half-sister. I had the correct movie after all.

I was unfamiliar with Jena Malone, the young actress portraying the teen named Rena. I think that Rena was supposed to be maybe 15 years old, but the actress Jena was probably 17 when the movie was filmed ─ not much older than her character.

Alicia was probably 21 years old.

I was sorry to read that the young actor ─ Brad Renfro, who was maybe 19 when the movie was filmed ─ who played the sisters' Gayish brother, was to die at the far too young age of 25.

I have just now realized that the mother of these three siblings was played by an actress (Michelle Forbes) who was really only just over 10½ years older than Alicia Witt ─ Alicia always did look younger than she was, despite having killer legs and a great-looking physique.

Michelle Forbes had darned decent legs as well, incidentally.

I thought that Michelle seemed familiar, but I now cannot see why ─ nothing in her acting credits should have left an impression like that.

I am deliberately not talking about the annual prison picnic that seemed to occupy approximately the second half of the movie. Suffice to say that the unnamed-by-me actor who played the convict father of young Rena was so adept at his role as a despicable louse that I am refusing to say anything more.

Because I had such trouble locating a source for the short-titled movie American Girl, I finally used a browser app and was able to find sources through the Yandex search engine. And so it was that I watched the movie at this link at OK.ru.

Later, as luck would have it, my younger brother returned home approximately an hour earlier than I expected. I had plans to head out after 9 p.m. for the 5.625-mile round trip hike to do some shopping at the nearest Real Canadian Superstore.

With him home and it not being too much after 8 p.m., I had to inform him that I was going to be leaving for a walk after 9 p.m., and that instead of watching any T.V. with him, I would be having a lie-down to rest up for what was ahead.

I did this well before 8:30 p.m., with the intention of possibly being on my way by 9:30 p.m. The store closes at 11 p.m., and it would take an hour to get there.

I meant to start readying for the venture at 9 p.m., but I rested too well ─ when I finally checked the time, it was 9:15 p.m.

Even so, I succeeded in being on my way by 9:30 p.m.

It was wet out, but it was not raining ─ maybe spitting a little at times. It never began to properly rain until I was nearly back home.

I did not buy everything I would have liked, but even so, I was to find that I had quite a load to be toting home in the sturdy gym-style bag I had brought along. In fact, by the time I was a mile or so from home ─ and it was 10:45 p.m. once I was finished shopping and then outside of the store ─ I had slowed right down and was experiencing considerable strain and even pain.

A half mile from home, and I began wondering on my ability to make the remaining distance if I did not somehow rest.

It was 11:44 p.m. once I was outside the locked front door ─ the house was in darkness, for my brother had gone to bed and neither of my stepsons was home.

I was in bad shape. After getting upstairs to my bedroom where I dressed down somewhat, I felt practically crippled, and I was inflexibly stiff. After sitting for a short spell, I actually was crippled!

When eventually I got to bed ─ probably soon after 1 a.m. at latest ─ my body was a total ache. That never much changed overnight, yet despite how weary I was, sleep was its usual elusive self.

I considered rising just after 7 a.m., but reconsidered and was to remain abed another hour.

What pain rising was!

I had such aches and soreness everywhere that it was concerning. And although I have not mentioned it of late, the small left toe that I used last Wednesday evening to kick some furniture in the darkened living room, must surely have incurred a break. The foot has remained somewhat swollen, and the three left-most toes are puffy.

I cannot assume a normal push-up position ─ that requires placing my weight across all of my toes and bending them. The pain is too pronounced. Instead, I have to angle the left foot such that my weight is mainly on the two largest toes.

I knew that my brother would be leaving this morning to pick up his girlfriend Bev at 10 a.m. to drive her to work ─ that is always my only opportunity to have some morning exercises out in the backyard tool shed. Primarily, I seek to engage six sets of pull-ups and chin-ups.

The prospect seemed impossible ─ my body felt as if I had suffered a thrashing.

Unfortunately, at 73 years of age, I dare not skip exercising ─ it becomes a trap, and losses of any gains becomes swift.

Of late my achievable ceiling of repetitions in those six sets has been 4 - 3 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2 (or is it 4 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2? Already I am forgetting).

This morning the triceps region ─ the muscles that give that distinctive bulge at the bottom or just beneath a flexed arm ─ were so strangely sore that I could not initially handle doing a pull-up. I tried twice before going gung ho a third time; but two repetitions were all I could manage.

So I did three sets of two. Chin-ups were not similarly painful, so I managed the usual 3 - 2 repetitions. In other words, I performed seven sets as follows: 2 - 2 - 2 - 3 - 2 - 2 - 2.

It bloody sucks to get old.

By the way, it does not much help that prior to going out to the tool shed, I weighed myself while fully clothed and in the runners I was to wear ─ I was hitting 196 pounds.

My brother and I watched our usual morning fare of videos, beginning with one streamed yesterday to Rumble's What's Up Canada? channel ─ the video was 25 minutes: Imminent Exposure required, this must be stopped!!!

Have you heard about the 100 day agenda? Let's just say that in spite of the MSM distractions, the displays of Provincial leaders balking at Trudeau's Medical information demands, you are being sold out anyway. Let me introduce you to who sold you out, and how quickly they are planning on pulling this off... while I can. #SpoilerAlert #Canada #Digitalid #News

Then I tuned in a 1¼-hour (1:18:26) upload from three days ago to Rumble's Vaccine Choice Canada channel: Are Pet Vaccines Safe & Effective? Dr Brenda Bernardt, DVM.

Dr. Brenda Bernhardt DVM (retired), discusses some of the issues and concerns regarding conventional veterinary medicine’s vaccination recommendations: dose, informed consent, frequency, antibody timers, etc. Discover why, after 25 years of practice, she decided to stand down from the veterinary association and become a Pet Wellness Consultant. If you have friends and family who have pets, whether they are beginning to question all vaccines or not, encourage them to listen to this interview. Their pet’s wellbeing may be a stake!

Dr. Brenda was extremely entertaining ─ I did not expect her interview to be so interesting. Even my brother enjoyed it.

We finished up with one of two videos that were uploaded yesterday to Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson's Rumble channel ─ the video was 51 minutes in duration: MEP Christine Anderson in Calgary Day 2 Question and Answer.

Member of European Parliament (MEP) Christine Anderson is presently in Canada on a tour. Unfortunately, something went amiss with this recording fairly early on, and thereafter the synchronization of sound with lip movement was maybe a half dozen seconds off, and this was an undeniable detraction.

Following that video, it became my brother's time for some bed rest before he left for the day to again socialize. I was enjoying a nap when he left.

I'll be watching some T.V. (courtesy of our Android TV Box) with him later this evening after he returns.

I was hoping to get out for some local grocery shopping, but I am just too damned brutalized from last evening's shopping trek. This is nuts.
