Still a Risk

Although my younger brother arrived home less than 10 minutes past 9 p.m. last evening, I was upstairs here at my computer which I keep in my bedroom. I had already written him off as of 9 p.m., and I was inflexible in that judgment.

So I closed my bedroom door ─ he was on his own for T.V. entertainment and our basic cable package, for he does not understand how to operate our Android TV Box. I expect that I was to bed by 9:30 p.m. with my cellphone alarm set for 1:45 a.m. to get me up to ready for my five-mile walk ─ it was to be my fifth consecutive day of such a walk.

A wakeful point arrived in which I had been sweating with amazing profusion ─ I felt that if the light had been on, I would actually have been able to witness the fluid seeping from my body. I finally checked the time, and saw that the midnight hour was nearly done.

I felt that I could have risen, but I decided that it was likely wiser to just do my best to lapse as deeply as I could into further rest.

When I next was curious about the time, it was something like 1:38 a.m., so I chose to rise then and turn off the cellphone alarm.

My eldest stepson was still up, but he soon enough went to bed. I had remained upstairs in my bedroom with the door closed.

Somehow I managed to squander time such that by the time I had locked the front door and was on my way, it may have been as late as 2:20 a.m. The night was quite cool, and the sky cloud-free ─ it can be difficult to tell due to dreadful light pollution. Everything was dry.

When early into my walk I stopped at an elementary school playground for six sets of pull-ups and chin-ups, I had to remove my light black denim jacket with which to wipe dry a bar to exercise with. Had the metal not been heavily condensed with dew, I had intended to exercise with the jacket on.

With it off, I managed four pull-ups in the opening set, and then two repetitions in each of the remaining sets, the final two sets of which were pull-ups done between two bars ─ delinquents had managed to wrap the chains of the gymnastics-style rings that I had meant to use, around the very high support bar. The only way to untangle them all is with a pole.

The final of the pull-ups required me to do considerable kicking and heaving to achieve full elevation, but I held myself in that position for a gruelling 10-count.

I had not weighed myself before leaving home, but after my return I did do so in my clothes, sans the jacket, and might have been as low as 193 pounds.

As for the walk, twice I had to make a small detour to avoid other night people, none of whom were out there for health reasons like I happened to be. It is best not to have proximity to questionable night life such as they.

The highlight of my walk was encountering a black cat that I have twice before encountered along 100th Avenue and directly across from the property of Lena Shaw Elementary School. I had crossed 140th Street and was walking the mile to 148th Street along the 'bottom' side of 100th Avenue as you look at this Google Map ─ there is nothing but forest on that side of the avenue for the entire mile.

Last night the cat and I ─ travelling in opposite directions ─ passed by one another directly across from the school building itself. This was the farthest along thus far ─ the other two times were nearer to the termination of 141st Street.

And I had seen the cat for some distance until then as we both approached our coincidence, so I have no idea just where it had come from.

My suspicion is that 'home' for the cat is in the vicinity of the Foxglove Supported Housing and Shelter located on Foxglove Drive (Google Map), for each time I have met that cat, it was walking towards 140th Street.

I am growing quite fond of the bold animal, even though I have not tried to make friends with it and do not know if it would be so inclined, or bolt from me for trying. But last night it showed no fear as we gradually drew nearer and nearer to each other. The sidewalk is as wide as a country lane, so I walked the side nearest the avenue, for the cat was walking the side nearest the forest.

I had seen it stop in full alert as a car passed ─ the cat faced directly at the passing vehicle, looking rigid and tense. But when we passed one another, it barely displayed notice of me. It could have left the sidewalk and taken to the relative safety of a grassy shoulder, but it chose not to.

Could it be remembering me as being a non-threat? It seems like it was a couple of months ago that we last encountered one another in that area, and nearly as long before that when the first encounter occurred ─ I believe that there were still a few patches of snow on the ground back then, so it has been a while.

If the cat does hang out in the Green Timbers Way / Foxglove area, then it is covering a great distance. I only conjecture that it might be from that area because I did once see a black cat prowling in behind the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care building that is located thereabouts. But it may have been an entirely different beast.

The Green Timbers Urban Forest Park is home to coyotes, so the cat is running risks out there at night. Each time I have encountered it along 100th Avenue has been a little after 3 a.m. There are also barred owls, which might potentially prey upon a cat at night. (See Do Owls Eat Cats?)

A 2012 DailyMail.com article tells of just such an incident where the barred owl succeeded in subduing a cat.

Anyway, with my walk done, I was back home and outside the locked front door by something like 4:19 a.m.

Note: I am considering carrying a can of sardines just in case I meet up with the cat again, although I do hate to influence the cat to have no fear of people. There are definitely people that a cat should never extend its trust towards.

I now forget when it was that I got back to bed (5:19 a.m. maybe?), but my morning began just after 8:30 a.m.

When a little later I joined my brother, around 9:10 a.m. he invited me to put our Android TV Box to use, so I tuned in Odessa Orlewicz's latest effort from yesterday ─ it exceeded 1¼ hours (1:20:52): More Video Proof The Libs/NDP/Bloc WANT VACCINE MANDATES As An Option Again In Canada.

June 21, 2023- More Proof The NDP, Libs, & Bloc WANT FUTURE VACCINE MANDATES In Canada!!! Video Proof from the House Of Commons...
A Conservative MP Pressed the issue through Bill C-278 in The House Of Commons by forcing a vote on the issue. The Uni-Party has once again been exposed. 2 shots to go back to normal and give you your "freedom?" Think again. Everyone is considered "unvaccinated" no matter what you did to "get back to normal." Our country has been sold to big pharma Blackrock, & the central bankers. Will YOU say no to the mass corrupt!on? Or will you continue to let your children be guinea pigs for the rich tech sector?

I was annoyed with this episode ─ Odessa just cannot shut up and let a video that she is focusing upon in her episode play through. Perhaps the uninformed 'sheep' might need her incessant dissection, but those are not the people who have tuned her in. I almost shut down the episode, her interruptions were becoming so aggravating.

I get enough of that damned nonsense in the evenings from my drunken brother when trying to watch T.V. with him.

The second video was far, far more interesting. Uploaded just today to YouTube's DW Documentary channel, it was 1½ hours (1:32:04): Asbestos - still a risk to today | DW Documentary.

Asbestos doesn’t burn, repels moisture, can be mixed with cement and spun into textiles. Although asbestos has been largely banned in the EU since 2005, the carcinogenic material is still being made and sold.

For decades, the hazardous substance isolated the steel frameworks of high-rise buildings and was found in car tires, floors and hairdryers. Although industrialized nations have been aware of the asbestos risk for a long time, the dangers have not yet been eliminated.  Doctors are warning of a rise in cases of secondary illnesses associated with asbestos exposure. In the EU, a ban on the manufacture, sale and use of asbestos was introduced in 2005. Germany implemented the measure even earlier, in November 1993.

In Europe, asbestos abatement represents a huge challenge: experts say it will take 100 years and cost several billion Euros to get rid of the carcinogenic fibers once and for all. All the while, year after year Russia continues to extract 600,000 tons of the mineral in the world’s largest asbestos mine - for export.

In the shipyards of Bangladesh, laborers get sick breaking up European freighters and supertankers containing thousands of tons of asbestos; and there’s growing anger in South America towards European companies that continued to use asbestos long after the material was banned in Europe. Global research casts doubt on common perceptions about asbestos and shows that no one is completely safe from possible exposure, particularly as large-scale industry and multinationals appear to be intent upon doing business with asbestos for some time to come.

At the video's conclusion nigh 12:30 p.m., my brother headed on upstairs to his bedroom to rest up for his early afternoon disappearance for the day to again socialize. I fixed up and ate my day's first meal, and was to bed for a nap by the time he emerged from his bedroom and left.

A fully sunny day ─ the first in a week or so. I wanted to sun, but did not get out into the backyard for it until a little past 3 p.m. I am sure I managed over 1¼ hours, though.

As for the evening, it will depend upon whether my brother arrives home before 9 p.m. If he fails to, then I will have washed my hands of him and will not be involving myself with him and any T.V. thereafter. Instead, I will be getting to bed so that I can rise again at 1:45 a.m. to ready for a sixth day's five-mile walk.

I hope to be around to be reporting on this evening in a post tomorrow.
