Wild Life

As I recall, I got to bed last evening late enough that I was allowing myself 3¾ hours of bed time before my 1:45 a.m. cellphone alarm was set to chime and get me up to ready for my scheduled five-mile walk.

After some sleep, I was awake enough to be curious on the time, so I finally took a peek ─ 1:41 a.m. What sense awaiting another four minutes? So I rose and cancelled the alarm.

One of my stepsons was still up, but after some minutes when I finally opened my bedroom door, the house was in darkness below.

I managed to squander my ample readying time such that by the time I had locked the front door and was on my way, it was 2:18 a.m. ─ that annoyed me. I had taken the time to weigh myself while fully dressed ─ possibly 195 pounds at minimum.

The sky seemed cloud-free, but for some wisps. There was a mostly full moon.

Early into my walk I stopped at an elementary school playground for six sets of pull-ups and chin-ups, and this time I removed my jacket. Perhaps that helped me to achieve four repetitions in the first set and two repetitions in each of the subsequent five sets; and I held the final pull-up (between a pair of gymnastics-style rings) for a 10-count.

Almost a mile farther on, remembering my previous walk two nights earlier when ─ better than halfway along the Quibble Creek Greenway as I walked it from Fraser Highway (Google Map) to 100th Avenue ─ a skunk had appeared ahead of me and chose to precede me for some distance, causing me to slow my pace; I decided this time to take to 138th Street and then 138-A Street to avoid the potential nuisance.

I did have a raccoon cross my path just before I reached 100th Avenue. And then just after I began following 100th Avenue, there was that possibly same darned skunk ahead of me this side of Quibble Creek Greenway.

Fortunately, it had in mind to cross 100th Avenue, and soon was no longer any sort of threat.

Some time later after I had left 148th Street and was walking along 96th Avenue (Google Map), there was a large owl hooting to my right with a second similar owl hooting distantly on the left. At one point the nearby owl sounded like it might actually be a pair.

I am always a wee bit leery that an owl may swoop down upon my shaven head when I am unawares.

I never saw the one at my right, but it was near enough that i could clearly hear its hooting pattern ─ it would start low and make a succession of ever louder sounds that would culminate in a couple of clear hoots. While building up from the lower sounds to the more familiar hoot, it sounded for all the world like a gibbon or chimpanzee.

The only other noteworthy happening occurred directly across from where George Junction terminates at Fraser Highway (Google Map). I was on the side of Fraser Highway opposite from George Junction and walking towards King George Boulevard.

At that point of the George Junction intersection there is another road that does not come through to Fraser Highway, and which ─ if it did ─ would easily thus be an extension of George Junction. But the end of that road is at a bit of an elevation, and has a concrete stairway of maybe at least eight steps connecting pedestrians to Fraser Highway.

Well, I had passed that way earlier, and at the time there was no shopping cart at the base of the steps, as there now was. I figured that someone had since left it there. But as I approached, I could see that it was quite full of ... well, the debris typical of a street person or scavenger.

And sure enough ─ sitting on the bottommost steps was such a person.

I do not go forth at that time of night to meet people nor make friends. Had I been aware earlier that someone was there, i would have detoured my route. But it was too late.

Suffice to say that I ended up parting with $5. At least the guy asked for the handout so that he could buy a couple of beers come the morning. He looked the type ─ not a druggie.

But just a bit farther on when I was crossing the King George, there was another character partway up the highway median. I did not notice him, either, until I was already crossing the highway. He called out something unintelligible to me, but I was not about to become embroiled with anyone else. Besides, if he was on the median waiting for vehicles forced to stop at a red light, he was likely a druggie.

He kept calling out unintelligibly to me even after I was across the highway and walking out of sight.

I do not need that.

I am going to have to be ever more vigilant hereafter.

By the time I was approaching the front door of home, it was 4:11 a.m. ─ I had made quite good time. But one of my two stepsons was already up. I did not bother to see who ─ I just came upstairs to my bedroom where I shut my bedroom door and soon enough dressed down.

My computer is here, so I was soon involved with it and may not have returned to bed until around 5:30 a.m.

When later in the morning I checked the time, it was nigh 9:15 a.m. ─ usually I am already downstairs watching T.V. with my younger brother.

When I joined him and was invited to put our Android TV Box into action, I led us off with Odessa Orlewicz's 1½-hour (1:34:04) video of yesterday: "Health Minister" Duclos To Impose Real TIme Big Pharma Testing On Canadians.

-MAP's in our Canadian Navy on twitter.

Despite the hyped description, it was not one of Odessa's home runs.

I next tuned in another of the older (August 5, 2018) videos from YouTube's Talasbuan channel ─ it was something over 24 minutes: Off Grid Life | Pigs and Pickles.

We finished with two videos from BitChute's bluedemon218 channel ─ one was just over two minutes, and had been uploaded back on July 6, 2020: Postmortem Photography.

Postmortem Photography was particularly popular in Victorian Britain. From 1860-1910, these Postmortem portraits were much like American portraits in style, focusing on the deceased either displayed as asleep or with the family; often these images were placed in family albums.

The second video exceeded 19 minutes, and had been uploaded July 17, 2020: Overtoun Bridge - Suicidal Dog Bridge.

The Overtoun Bridge is believed by many to be haunted by something or someone. It’s better known as the Suicide Dog Bridge it’s located near Dumbarton in Scotland it attracted international media attention because a large number of dogs jumped from the bridge. It been reported that since the 1950s approximately 50 dogs have jumped from the bridge into the waterfalls below.

The 50 feet drop kills most of the dogs but some reports indicate that several dogs that survive go back and jump a second time. Dr. David Sands examined the place and concluded that the potent odor from male mink urine was possibly luring dogs to their deaths. But John Joyce who live in the area for 50 years said that there is no mind around there. It’s still unknown why dogs jump from the bridge but many prompted claims of paranormal activity at the bridge.

Aside from this strange phenomena the bridge known as the location where a man named Kevin Moy threw his 2 week old son from the bridge. The man claimed that his son was the incarnation of the devil. After throwing him, he attempted suicide first by jumping off the bridge and then cutting his own wrists but failed to do so.

The write-up proved more alluring than the video turned out to be. I was expecting descriptions by dog owners of what happened with their dogs, but that didn't turn out. In fact, the video heavily concentrated upon talking about the Overtoun House, the immediately nearby manor from which the bridge has its name. Also, at one point ─ probably over halfway through the video ─ there was clearly a break where some portion of the video was cut.

After the video, my brother had an especially long bed rest session before leaving well after 2:30 p.m. to catch a bus ─ he would be rendezvousing at a pub with one or more of his drinking buddies. By the time he left, I had both finished my day's first meal and then had a short nap.

With my brother gone, no later than 2:50 p.m. I commenced maybe 1½ hours of sunning out in the backyard. I was uneasy initially, though, for when I was first walking about on the sundeck, there was some sustained snarling / growling coming from beneath it. My verdict is that I had likely disturbed a raccoon that was sheltering under there for the day, awaiting the night.

I have no idea what a raccoon sounds like when feeling threatened.

So rather than lying out on the lawn to sun my front as I usually first do, I decided to sun my back for possibly 20 minutes by just standing with my back to the Sun, and with ease of view of the nearest opening to the underside of the deck.

Only thereafter did I lie down to sun my front, but only for a dozen or so minutes.

After that I sat on a lawn- or deck-chair out on the lawn.

Anyway, it is after 8:30 p.m. right now, so I am going to bring this post to a close and start watching some T.V.
