Another Bid by JustHost to Sucker Me Into a Security Subscription I Do Not Need and Cannot Afford

My wife remained home yesterday after showing up Sunday evening, so I never had a chance to create a post. Had she not come home, then the plan was that I would have tried to get out very early in the a.m. yesterday to have a good, long walk.

The same would have been in store early this morning had she not been here overnight.

However, she left mid-afternoon today to go to work at her friend's Thai restaurant, and is not expected back until sometime tomorrow. Thus, if I have tonight to myself in bed, then I should be able to get away early in the a.m. tomorrow and finally get in that hike. This business of only making it out one a week or less for any sort of decent walk is just not acceptable any longer. I have only been having walks when I have to go grocery shopping (I do not drive).

We had rain overnight, as well as some this mid-afternoon, so I don't know what to expect early tomorrow.

Before we  proceed much farther, I want to post the collage that Google Photos created today from three photos I took on this day in 2012 ─ i.e., eight years ago ─ and filed into a Google Photos album:

I never left a description with the original three photos, so I do not know why I took them ─ it was probably just a case of 'why not?'

The setting was A.H.P. Matthew Park in Surrey, B.C. ─ here are the three original photos:

If all goes well with tomorrow's early walk, I expect that I will probably be taking photos then, as well.

But on to something else now.

For well over two weeks, I have been adding content into a new post that I am putting together at one of my six hosted websites. However, that specific website is one that I am thinking that I am going to have to abandon.

I have my five other websites all hosted on one account with HostGator, but this single website is hosted by an outfit called JustHost ─ which happens to be owned by the same conglomerate that owns HostGator.

On April 9, I was left a telephone message and an E-mail from Tyler B******* claiming that my JustHost website ─ which is LatinImpressions.com ─ was infected with malware or some such.

I responded to the E-mail and declined to bite ─ I had done enough research to realize that I was probably being scammed or suckered with the intention of coercing me into an expensive subscription to an unneeded website security service (such as SiteLock). To see what I mean, just 'Google' "sitelock scam" and see exactly what I am referring to.

I never heard anything more until today when a Gilbert G****** left me a similar telephone message as well as an E-mail, but with no reference to the one from over a month ago.

So I responded back to the E-mail as follows:
Gilbert,

I am forwarding to you (just below) the response that I made on April 9 to your fellow 'Website Security Specialist' Tyler B*******. As a pensioner with absolutely no other income source, you're options are tantamount to impossible. I'm a Canadian ─ the subscription sums you have quoted are only about 71% of what they will be in my currency.

If it's time to give up the website, then so be it.

Just let me know, and we'll pull the plug.

As far as I am concerned, I have no issues to resolve with my website, Tyler.

I'm a 70-year-old pensioner under the weight of crushing debt who has never made a single cent from my website. It's been a money pit now for more than a decade.

I have researched enough about what is likely afoot with this reaching-out from EIG, and I can't afford it.

If EIG / JustHost have plans to try and hold me hostage by shutting down my website, then I guess I'll be saving $24.99 per month on hosting fees. I refuse to be a hostage.

I have enough in what remains of my dwindling life to worry about, Tyler ─ issues that truly are important.

Hello G*****,

My name is Gilbert with the JustHost Security team, I called and left a voicemail at **********. We recently have been seeing issues with malware on your latinimpressions[.]com hosting account. We wanted to make sure that you were aware of the issue so it can be fixed. You would be able to view the report that we have uploaded through the File Manager in your account, on a file called malware.txt.

Malware attacks are automated by hackers with bots that will exploit a websites vulnerabilities to deploy malware to the website code. We partner with Sitelock to have scanning and firewall security that includes malware removal that will be able to resolve this for you. There are 2 levels I would recommend for your website:

1. Prevent (recommended for proactive security): Fully automated scan and clean - advanced firewall included - cleans database and files(6 hour setup time, up to 24 hours for initial scan and removal for malware)
--- $179.88/yr per site, renews at $239.88/yr per site

2. Prevent Plus (recommended for infected sites): Constant scanning and malware removal - advanced firewall included - automated patching of site for most recent updates, and concierge service for advanced cleaning and response(6-12 hour time frame for the concierge clean)
--- $299.88/yr per site, renews at $359.88/yr per site

Option 1 is automated which has a 6 hour setup time, then once setup is complete, 24 hours for the initial scan and malware removal to complete. Option 2 has the concierge service which will be a manual clean on the website, this has a 6-12 hour time frame while security is setup which is our fastest response for malware removal.

Since Endurance International Group (EIG) also own HostGator and thus my other five websites, if any such nonsense is directed at me concerning them as well, then I will also release that entire account.

I pay hosting on a monthly basis, so it would not be as if I would be losing out on a months-long subscription that I have already paid for if I was to tell them to go hang themselves.

I think that my oldest website has been online for almost a dozen years. I have put an incredible amount of my life into them, and I still spend at least a few hours per day working on at least one of them ─ often, I spend six or more hours a day.

But I have also spent a heck of a lot of money keeping them online, for I also have to pay money to retain possession of the website names (such as latinimpressions.com) ─ it is not just hosting fees.

If I found myself unburdened by ever again having to work on my websites ─ none of which have ever so much as returned to me affiliate revenue sufficient to cover even a single month of hosting ─ then it would be as if a huge amount of my day was opened up to me to involve myself in other matters.

I would have the time for a long walk on a daily basis. My health would improve, as would my fitness. Maybe some of my damaged eyesight would become restored following such a drastic reduction in monitor strain on my eyes.

So I bloody dare them to try and bully me into cowing to their threats ─ I will not be extorted for a damned cent.

Losing my websites could soon prove to be an incredible blessing.

Well, my evening is already upon me, and I want to have myself a bath ─ my brother will be home at any point from here on, and I will be expected to join him, putting our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box into operation to fetch episodes of some of the T.V. series we follow together.

So I am going to bring this post to a close right here.
