My Mother's Birthday

I was to bed last evening at 10:50 p.m. after first discovering that it was raining outside, and probably thereafter the night through.

I had an exceptional night ─ I must have been in dire need of sleep, for I was never awake enough to be interested in checking the time until around 5:30 a.m. In other words, I had been in bed something over 6½ hours, which is so unusual that I cannot recall when I last managed anything similar.

If within a year, then I would be surprised.

The morning was a mix of Sun and cloud, and very breezy.

My younger brother was not to rise and emerge from his bedroom until after 10:00 a.m. He had arrived home last evening just after 8:00 p.m., catching me up from bed and still sitting here at my computer. I had meant to get to bed early.

But all turned out well. I was able to put in the work this morning I had targetted on the post that I am building at one of my six hosted websites. And I was then back into bed for a wee bit further sleep.

I suppose that I could have tried to spend some time out in the backyard in the afternoon benefitting from the sunshine, but there are still clouds floating about, and an unpleasant breeze. I want to be able to sit out there donned in cutoffs or athletic shorts alone.

Besides, my brother took it upon himself to continue his work restoring our front and backyard lawns that had been badly torn up on a recurring basis by skunks. In fact, I took these three photos of him at 3:31 p.m. / 3:32 p.m. as he worked in the front yard, just before I sought a nap:

He had already gotten some bed rest earlier in the afternoon, but I had taken that opportunity to tackle the session of backyard toolshed exercising that was scheduled for today. Afterward, I then had my first meal of the day.

When I rose from my afternoon nap, my brother was gone. However, he had left me a note requesting that I order him online a 2019 income tax package because he has been unable to find any locally.

And so I have done that.

Today was traditionally our mother's birthday, but she died in mid-March 2006 at the age of 89. I think we really did believe that she might attain the age of 100, but we were certainly expecting her to make 90.

An aneurysm claimed her, alas; and she died alone in her wee home in Keremeos where she and her husband had retired to live in the mid- or early-1990s. Her husband had preceded her in death back in 2002 ─ heart failure.

I had intended to move there to be with her at some point after my retirement, but that was never to be.

My Thai wife arrived here in Canada less than two months following my mother's death, and so they were never to meet. I had married late in May 2005 over in Thailand, but the visa process to get my wife here was excessively long.

And once my wife was here, I was not to retire until early April 2011.

I have nothing else I care to talk about today, so I am going to bring this post to a close here.
