My wife was not yet home last evening from working at her friend's Thai restaurant by the time I was into bed ─ or I should say, she had not yet entered the house. I saw from the bedroom window what I correctly deduced to be her car about to back into the driveway.
I was in bed by 10:50 p.m., having watched some T.V. with my younger brother until almost 10:45 p.m. We watch our T.V. shows through the use of our T9 Android 8.1 TV Box which only I am able to properly operate.
My wife was soon into our bedroom, but I had on my makeshift bandana blindfold and earplugs. Thus, when she exited the bedroom and left the bedside lamp on at her side of the bed, I was not overly bothered.
Nevertheless, when she finally came to bed, I was still not asleep. A peek at the time once the lamp was out revealed it to be 11:55 p.m. ─ an hour and five minutes after my earlier retirement.
I have no idea how much longer it took for me to slip into any sleep, but I believe that I only slept briefly before checking the time around 1:00 a.m.; and then I had another brief episode of sleep before checking it again around 2:00 a.m. or soon thereafter.
I tried for more sleep, but quickly decided to just rise and get to work adding content into the post I have in production at one of my six hosted websites.
It was just beginning to grow light outside when I finally returned to bed for some further sleep.
Yet I was awake again enough to be checking the time around 8:18 a.m. When 8:30 a.m. arrived, I concluded that I might as well rise ─ I was in nearly unbearable need of micturition.
My brother was downstairs watching T.V. again, but I waited until nearly 10:00 a.m. before going downstairs to fix up my day's first hot caffeinated beverage and then joining him in the living room.
I had a movie in mind for us ─ 2012's Ruby Sparks. The source that I selected proved flawless.
I expected bitching from my brother, but he held his tongue. And the movie did present quite an interesting scenario ─ I think that he may have expected the movie was going to turn into a thriller.
However, my brother probably has some brain dysfunction from his years of heavy drinking. He cannot long follow features that require much mental affiliation.
Granted, he launders on Fridays as a rule, and did have a load going. But he would rise and disappear for five minutes at a time.
Then late into the movie when the lead male character finally has another blow-up with Ruby and decided to demonstrate to her that she is his creation, and does so by typing out things he then forces her to do in front of him, my brother was away. In fact, he was gone for about 10 minutes.
His laundry was so damned important that he could not await the finish of the movie to get his clothes from the dryer, apparently folding them there; and then taking the load upstairs to his bedroom to spend more time in putting everything away.
I was so incensed at his obliviousness that I was going to refuse to explain anything to him about the plot developments if he was to ask, but he did not bother.
The lead male character had finally typed out that Ruby was free ─ in other words, no longer his hostage to shape and mould as he desired her to be. And so she disappeared.
My brother questioned nothing, lacking all apparent curiosity as to why she was no longer 'in the picture'.
He never did voice any queries to me, and I had no intention of offering him anything, either.
I rather like actress Zoe Kazan ─ she is coming to very much attract me. I've been tuning in several of her movies in recent months, but I am certain that my brother has no idea that the same actress has been featured in them. He doesn't pay that degree of attention ─ I don't think he is able to.
I pointed out to my brother as soon as I saw the actor playing the male lead's brother ─ I identified that the actor (Chris Messina) had the role of 'Nick' in the third season of The Sinner.
My brother had no idea at the time. If he eventually was to come to recognize the actor, he never said so.
Antonio Banderas also had a role in the movie. Although I realized that the actor was familiar to me, I had no idea that it was Antonio until I saw the finishing movie credits. I of course recognized Elliott Gould, who also had a recurring part in the movie; but once more, I had to see the credits to be able to place a name to the man.
Yet another actor in the movie who is very visually familiar to me was Steve Coogan; but just as with Chris Messina, I have no familiarity with the actor's name.
As well, there was an actress in the movie who had just one scene and whom I knew my brother would be useless to have pointed out to him, for I was not familiar with her name ─ Deborah Ann Woll. But I came to like her through her incarnation as the Marvel T.V. character Karen Page ─ the legal secretary for "Foggy" Nelson and Matt Murdoch (Daredevil).
So yes, I liked the movie. I've always been a romantic at heart, even though romance has been rare in my real life.
Heck, I might go so far as to give the movie an 80% favourable rating ─ definitely a minimum of 70%.
Aww, shoot ─ it is already after 7:00 p.m., and I still have to do some exercising. My brother will soon be home and have the T.V. on, expecting me to join him to bring in episodes of two or three of the series we follow.
I don't think my wife will be home after she finishes work today, for she generally spends her weekends somewhere in Vancouver (such is my sorry marriage). And so I shouldn't have as much trouble finding sleep once I am to bed later this evening.
