More Than a Foot of Snow!

Early last evening I finished off the last few minutes ─ less than 10 ─ of a Christmas movie that I had aborted a day or two earlier due to my younger brother's arrival home from his 'socializing'.

The movie was 2015's Angels in the Snow.

I did not foresee the near shock ending. Had I been able to watch the movie all in one sitting, its effect would likely have been more powerful than it was; but even so, it still struck deep.

The cast were all very good ─ no complaints from me.

And although the actress name Kristy Swanson is certainly familiar to me, I am not visually familiar enough with the actress to be able to name her when I see her. And when I saw her name in the movie credits, I confused her with Hilary Swank who broke my heart in the rousing movie Million Dollar Baby.

However, today's big news is our snowfall. I think that it was last back in 2008 / 2009 that we had this much accumulate ─ there is over a foot of the stuff out there.

I rose just after 8 a.m. this morning to discover that my younger brother was already downstairs watching T.V. Before I joined him, around 8:30 a.m. he went outside to start shovelling our double-car driveway.

And so I decided that I would participate without having had any coffee as yet.

What a feat! We were possibly out there for an hour, for we also had to shovel off our stretch of sidewalk.

I took these photos around the midday:

That is a barbecue unit in the final photo.

My wife unexpectedly showed up just barely ahead of 11 a.m. ─ that is her car in the first four photos. Had the driveway not been cleared by then, she would have met with some difficulty accessing it. Parking out on the street side would be folly, and of course would impede any snowplowing.

We live in a cul-de-sac, and various yahoos have been using the area last night to spin circles with their vehicles ─ in good weather, they use it to 'burn rubber' and raise a helluva lot of noise and stinky smoke.

Anyway, following our morning exercise, my brother and I only had time to watch one video ─ Christopher James Pritchard's (A Warrior Calls) upload of today to Rumble: Warriors Will Stop This Evil.

Christopher's positivism is inspiring to a degree, but I honestly believe that the situation in our world is only going to become devastatingly worse.

My brother had to drive his girlfriend Bev to work this morning, but this time he didn't pick her up until after 10:30 a.m. And of course, since he will have to drive her home, he left in the early afternoon to once again 'socialize' ─ i.e., hook up with his drinking crowd.

I did not realize that my poor wife was referring to this afternoon when she spoke to me something about not seeing much point in the Thai restaurant she works at only opening for half the day.

She normally works a full day on Tuesdays, beginning at 11 a.m. But today, she soon retired to her room to nap after she showed up late in the morning. Then after I had a nap in the early afternoon and was downstairs having a coffee, I came upstairs here to my computer when my wife resorted to the bathroom to begin freshening up.

I thereafter heard her carting some baggage down the stairs; and before I knew it, she had gone without a word to me. Initially I considered that maybe she was only out on an errand or two; but in time I came to understand that she likely had been referring to the restaurant as having been closed this morning, but opening up into the latter afternoon.

It does normally close for 1 - 1½ hours in the mid-afternoon each day, opening again around 4:30 p.m. Today, it must have not opened at all until into the afternoon, and she was expected to show up there.

Now changing the subject yet again, two of the above photos that I took were taken with a Canon PowerShot SD880 IS camera. I only took two photos because the memory card had filled up and no further photos were allowed.

Well, I have had an unopened pack containing a SanDick Ultra SDXC card (128 gigabytes) sitting here on my computer desk for possibly 1½ years, so I opened it up and inserted it into the camera: "memory card error".

There does not seem any way to use the camera to format the card, so I have inserted it into both a laptop and this computer, but nothing at all results ─ it is as if the card was never inserted at all.

Consequently, I am on the verge of giving up on the darned thing. I will let my youngest stepson give it some attention ─ he left around 9 a.m. (on foot) to go to work today. The lad (I believe that he turns 25 this month, if he has not already done so) has some savvy with technology of this sort.

My early evening is upon me. I had intended to do some local grocery shopping on foot after it got dark, but I may scuttle that plan and instead watch a Christmas movie while enjoying some red wine.

To be announced in tomorrow's post.
