Sounding the Alarm

I shan't be posting much ─ already my evening is upon me, for finally I made the four-mile round trip hike to the nearest government liquor store. And halfway there at Surrey Place (Central City), I at last cashed in the five or so winning lottery scratch tickets that were leftovers of Christmas giving to me from last year.

I took my time over the past year in scratching them off, and was rewarded with something like $12 in total, plus a couple of free more such tickets.

However, I bought two $20 scratch gift packs that I intend to include as partial Christmas presents later this month ─ I must still buy more.

On top of that, I spent $148.25 at the liquor store ─ most of the purchases will also be included as Christmas presents. Even so, I suppose more such expenditure is still to come ─ not as lucratively, however.

It began lightly raining early into my walk home, but at least temperatures are quite mild. We had rain yesterday evening and on into the night, so there is little evidence of our recent frozen snowfall remaining.

I neglected to mention yesterday that my brother and I watched some of each of the two FIFA World Cup Quarter-Finals that were played, and witnessed Croatia out penalty-kick Brazil, and a similar thing happen by Argentina to the gutsy Netherlanders.

Interesting stuff. I can see how these football (soccer) games capture so much interest and passion.

This morning my brother and I watched a 1¼-hour (1:16:25) upload to Rumble by Vaccine Choice Canada: Dr. William Makis - Sounding the Alarm.

Dr. William Makis of Alberta sounded the alarm on the shocking deaths of over 90 Canadian Doctors who received the Covid-19 vaccine. Since raising his concerns with the Canadian Medical Association, not only has he received no response from them, he has seen obituaries being removed from their website.

Dr. Makis obtained a 4 year undergraduate degree in Immunology at University of Toronto, medical degree at McGill University and a 5 year medical specialization in Nuclear Medicine Radiology and Oncology. He is Assistant Professor in the Department of Radiology at the University of Alberta and the author of over 100 peer-reviewed publications in international medical journals.

Dr. Makis always makes for a very interesting interview.

We also watched an old History Channel documentary on BitChute of 42 minutes' duration: S-21 Cambodia's Auschwitz.

"Security Prison 21 (S-21) by the Khmer Rouge regime from its rise to power in 1975 to its fall in 1979. From 1976 to 1979, an estimated 20,000 people were imprisoned at Tuol Sleng (the real number is unknown). Tuol Sleng means "Hill of the Poisonous Trees" or "Strychnine Hill". Tuol Sleng was just one of at least 150 torture and execution centers established by the Khmer Rouge" - Wikipedia

It is a sad state that hardly any of the Khmer Rouge monsters were ever executed. This includes the commander of that prison ─ Kang Kek Iew (or Kaing Guek Eav), more commonly known as Comrade Duch or Hang Pin. That prick got to die of pneumonia in September 2020 at the age of 77.

When my brother left in the morning to pick up his girlfriend Bev at 10 a.m. to drive her to work, I took the opportunity to tackle a half dozen sets of pull-ups and chin-ups out in the backyard tool shed. Before going out there however, I first weighed myself exactly as I would be dressed, and I seemed to be topping 190 pounds, if not actually hitting the 191-pound mark.

I have trouble maintaining an adequate grasp of the thick bar that I have to use ─ it is far too thick to enclose in my hand. I can only cup my palm and fingers overtop it. The bar is also slick, so my hands need to be properly soiled. If they are at all oily, then I am lucky to manage even two pull-ups or chin-ups.

And so it was that my grip was far too gone in the first set for me to be able to last to attain five pull-ups ─ I had to stop at four and regain my hold to finish one more. I managed two pull-ups in the next set; but then when I attempted the first of two sets of chin-ups, my slipping hold forced me to stop after two chin-ups and I had to regain my hold to add one more. I then managed two more chin-ups in the next set.

And as usual, the final two sets were two repetitions each of me pulling myself up between two of the thick bars, my palms facing toward either side of my head.

I finished with some push-ups.

The overall strain was such that after I was in the house, I was feeling uneasy ─ I wondered if there was some chance that I was verging on a cardiac event, or maybe a stroke. The uneasy state lasted some while, but nothing more came of it.

Perhaps it is not the wisest thing for a 73-year-old to be undergoing this sort of strenuous exercising. Nevertheless, if it is given up, there will never be any returning to it. The ability will be lost for what life remains to me.

So ... no thanks. I will keep at it.

I will close by stating that it is now just over a week since my wife was last home. She has not been here since she left mid-afternoon last Saturday to work the late afternoon and the evening at the Thai restaurant where she is employed part-time.

She had a health scare early this week that found her visiting a hospital on two successive days for medical tests, but I have not heard from her since her last text on Thursday. Consequently, I know nothing more.
