This must be a quick post, for it is after 7 p.m. and I want to be away on a shopping hike by around 8 p.m.
I rose this morning at 4 a.m. ─ rather eagerly, actually, for I had pretty much slept myself out ─ and by barely past 6 a.m. was away on what was to be a 5.625-mile round trip hike to Real Canadian Superstore.
It was magnificently dark and even somewhat foggy ─ and chilly ─ when I left, but the Sun was strong behind me as I returned.
I intended to have three sets of pull-ups and chin-ups on my way to the store, and I had even gotten among the playground equipment at the nearby elementary school. But then in the thick dark just outside a corner of the small playground, I noticed some spectral-like movement and quickly realized that there was a figure looming there, probably shrouded in a blanket.
Obviously this compelled me to mosey on away to resume my walk, but I was deeply annoyed.
For the past week or so, there has been a tent erected at an extreme edge of the grounds on some nights when I cut though the school property, and a couple of times at night I have passed by a person sleeping in a bit of ready-made encampment under a set of school steps.
So I expect that it was a homeless person lingering in the dark who scotched my bit of exercising. Likely he was no longer able to sleep, and was just roaming about as he awaited daylight ─ or maybe he had been relieving himself.
Whatever the situation, I wish these people would camp more remotely ─ I certainly would. I have little respect for those who make a presence of themselves instead of being more reclusive.
Anyway, I was back home by about 8:30 a.m. and soon enough returned to bed because my younger brother was not up as yet.
Possibly I managed some napping. It was well past 10 a.m. ─ maybe nearer 10:30 a.m. ─ when I went downstairs for my day's second mug of strong instant coffee, at which time my brother was just about to turn on the T.V.
So I joined him, and we finished watching the documentary ─ recorded by me on a thumb or flash drive ─ that we had to depart from yesterday because he wanted to return to his bedroom at 11:30 a.m. for some bed rest before leaving for the day to socialize.
He didn't show much interest in the documentary yesterday, but he paid it fuller heed this morning.
At 50 minutes (50:22), it had been uploaded on October 1, 2020, to YouTube's Free Documentary - History channel: Food History: The Roman Banquet | Let's Cook History | Free Documentary History.
Let's Cook History - Episode 1: The Roman Banquet | History Documentary
The Roman empire was a time of power and brutality, fueled by violent games and bloodbaths. However, it was also abundant in refinement and extreme sensuality. Food and cooking was an key indicator of success, with quality and abundance of dishes the primary measure. As the first and largest European civilization, Rome was at the epicenter of culinary innovation, with an acute emphasis on vegetables, meat and spices.
From eating lying down, to watering down fine wines, Rome had unique practices when it came to dining. Techniques are examined, and strange staples, such as a fish intestine sauce that was the Roman equivalent of ketchup, are revealed. We explore the taste laboratories of Epicius, the master behind Rome’s cooking prowess, and source of inspiration for the best chefs today.
An entertaining five part series exploring the origins of our eating habits. Each episode reconstructs a famous meal from a different period in history, depicting the evolution of tastes, customs and world trades that have shaped our cuisine.
Then we watched a 42-minute (42:06) video published yesterday to Rumble's AKStraightSpeaks channel: A Talk with Former BC Premier's Daughter, Chia Vanderzalm.
Free flowing convo with Chia Vanderzalm, personal trainer turned political activist.

I was no fan of Bill Vanderzalm back in the 1970s, but I can appreciate the principled politician now.
After this, since it was around noon, I just set the SmartTube app that I have downloaded into our Android TV Box to play random YouTube videos. Anon my brother returned to his bedroom to rest; I had a large first meal of the day, and had not yet sought a nap when my brother emerged from his bedroom and left for the day.
An extremely sunny one, by the way.
I never sought my nap until maybe 2 p.m., rather foolishly. It was my intention to leave here on a day walk at 5 p.m. to comfortably attain the government liquor store in Fleetwood ─ the store closes at 7 p.m. on Sundays. It would take me something over an hour to get there.
But my nap was extreme ─ I never shook it off until something like 4:45 p.m. It was impossible to leave at 5 p.m. because I needed coffee with which to revive, and I would also need to groom and dress for the outing.
Now I plan to visit the same area, but will hit the Save-On-Foods store there ─ this branch of the store sells wine and cider, and is open until 10 p.m.
