Early last evening I phoned Sandy W., the longtime ladyfriend of my old friend William Alan G. who is in a full-time care facility over in Victoria where he has essentially been bedridden for a few years now.
Sandy, who lives in an apartment in Vancouver, keeps in touch with Bill and is my sole means of knowing anything about him. Sandy is also in contact with one of Bill's (female) cousins.
Bill is still alive somehow, despite being 75 years of age and with his 76th birthday due to arrive in April.
Sandy and Bill first came to know one another in the first half of the 1980s; I have known him since at least 1962, as I recall. We became friends when we both attended the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints here in Surrey.
I last attended that church sometime in 1964. It was the last church I was ever to attend to this day for any kind of regular church service; since that time, I have only been to churches for things like weddings or memorials.
I do believe in God, but I have always been on the reclusive side. As well, for most of my adult life I had very little income and felt too ashamed to be attending any church. Besides, I do not drive, so I was hardly going to be hiking the streets to a church while wearing my 'Sunday best'.
Incidentally, my 'Sunday best' has never been very much ─ I have never in my 72 years owned a suit.
So a strong element of shame born of my longstanding lack of means figured largely in my 'falling away'.
Anyway, the guilt has been assuaged where talking with Sandy is concerned ─ I ought to easily be able to get a month or more out of the understanding before I feel compelled to respond and give her another call. Sandy is not shy about phoning, texting, and E-mailing me in seeking contact, but I am deft at not engaging her except when it is of the greatest convenience for me.
My wife had worked the full day yesterday at the Thai restaurant where she has part-time employment, so she got home during the latter evening that day. She must have had to work today too, for she rose and left us at pretty much her usual time for one of her workdays (she has 11 a.m. starts).
When she left this morning, my brother and I were watching Laura-Lynn Tyler Thompson's latest video on her channel at Rumble ─ Laura-Lynn has been with the Freedom Convoy 2022 truckers ever since they left this area to join all of the others descending upon Ottawa.
The video my brother and I watched ─ Freedom Friday in Ottawa ─ was posted today, but already there are others yet to be viewed by my brother and I.
Even so, this video had some very enjoyable portions. I loved the segment beginning around the 9:22 mark where the new and rather cute interim Conservative Party leader Candace Bergen addresses Parliament in Ottawa, and calls for some conciliations with the truckers who are occupying the city.
Our Liberal Crime Minister Trudope is still hiding and quaking in abject terror somewhere, as he has been since just before the truckers arrived in Ottawa last week, so deputy prime minister Chrystia Freeland was having to field the address from Candace.
Nitwit Chrystia responded to Candace by parroting some feeble anecdote about one of her Black constituents who is reportedly horrified at the displays of swastikas and a Confederate flag ─ purportedly by the truckers ─ identifying that they are all, of course, racist terrorists.
Candace ably takes Chrystia to task for this phony labelling, so bravo for Candace!
Then immediately after that Parliament segment in Laura-Lynn's video and at approximately the 11:50 mark, Laura-Lynn espies a Black lady in full support of the truckers; the lady is wearing a sign declaring ─ among other things ─ "Do I look like a White supremacist?"
I am so damned sick of the Liberals, as well as the New Democrats (NDPs) ─ and all of their provincial counterparts. In my 50 years of voting, I had only ever voted for the NDP both federally and provincially up until the last election when for the first time I voted for a different party ─ the People's Party of Canada.
And because of the stance and attitude of the NDP and their wretched lying leader Jagmeet Singh, I cannot imagine ever again voting for the NDP at any level.
The main part of Laura-Lynn's hour-long video featured a retired Victoria police officer named Mike Gibson ─ I was extremely impressed with how well-spoken the man was.
So overall, the video was very enjoyable and interesting.
I was pleased that my brother seemed to appreciate the other related videos that I tuned in, including Robert F. Kennedy, Jr.'s 27-minute speech on January 23 at the Defeat The Mandates Rally in Washington D.C. (Patriot News Outlet | Robert F. Kennedy Jr., Epic Defeat The Mandates Speech); and the 72-minute video featuring Dr. Peter McCullough being interviewed by Kristina Borjesson (Prove It's Misinformation: Dr. Peter McCullough After the Joe Rogan Show).
My brother had read a lengthy news report earlier in the Saturday edition of the Vancouver Sun that dealt with the Spotify / Joe Rogan controversy, so the latter video related to the article.
I don't have any further time to blog ─ my brother, who had gone out for the afternoon, showed up well ahead of 8 p.m. before I had finished this post. As a result, I am now working on the sign-off well past midnight and thus into Sunday a.m.
I had intended a good long early morning hike to do some shopping before the Sun was yet up, but that sure ain't likely now ─ I had thought to be getting up at 4:30 a.m. to allow me time to accustom to the experience by indulging in some unhurried coffee-drinking.
I did get out early this a.m. (Saturday) after having a bathroom break just after 4:30 a.m. ─ by the time I made the decision for the walk and then dressed, it was likely around 4:50 a.m. when I set off on the small walk. I only got myself a hike of maybe 1¼ miles in total, but it was better than no walk at all.
It looks like I won't be abed now until 1 a.m. or so Sunday, so I hope I can get some sort of early morning grocery shopping done ─ it's just improbable that I will be going for distance as had been intended.
By the way, I never heard anything from my wife ─ she did not return home from work. She usually stays elsewhere for much of the weekend, and isn't likely to be home again until sometime on Monday.
So how's your life?
