It has been a long while since I have failed to take any photos at Christmas nor New Year's, but that is what happened ─ I have nothing to show for the two occasions.
I had to buckle down last afternoon to finally end my work on a post I have been neglecting at my website Thai-Iceland.com. I absolutely did not want to have the uncompleted post carry over into 2023, so I put the necessary effort into finally getting it published before I turned my attention to some drinking and a Christmas movie.
It did indeed take some doing, but I succeeded, and now the post is finally done with: Iceland Trucks.
And so I began watching a Christmas movie last evening around 8:20 p.m., and my younger brother obligingly did not arrive back home until its closing credits were finished. The movie was 2016's Christmas Cookies, which I very much enjoyed.
Lead actress Jill Wagner, who seemed unknown by me, was wonderful. However, I now see that I have enjoyed her not 10 days ago ─ maybe even less than a week ago ─ in the movie Karen Kingsbury's Maggie's Christmas Miracle.
She did seem vaguely familiar, but I ascribed that to her vague resemblance in voice and facial reactions to actress Jes Macallen, who plays Ava Sharpe (the lesbian lover of Caity Lotz's character) on the T.V. series DC's Legends of Tomorrow.
Actor Wes Brown was very able in portraying the eventual love interest for Jill Wagner's character in Christmas Cookies.
Once my brother was home ─ by which time I had consumed a few ounces of my Bacardi Spiced Rum, and actually emptied the 1.14-litre bottle that my brother had given me for Christmas ─ we were to watch two New Year's Eve-related movies.
The first was 2015's The Age of Adaline. Any doubts that my brother had about my movie selection were fast erased and he was probably as invested into it as was I.
Actress Blake Lively in the lead role was fabulous. Her name is just faintly familiar to me, but I did not believe that I had ever seen her act before. I now see that I was wrong, for a year or two ago my brother and I apparently enjoyed her performance in the thriller The Shallows.
Further drinking of course ensued.
The movie finished just in time for my brother and I to venture outside as midnight arrived, and we witnessed the fireworks and other noise-making of all description that other celebrants clarioned into the night. My brother ensured that we toast in the New Year with a shot of Scotch apiece, so that was done.
Since we were not yet ready to call it quits and retire, I summoned up another movie ─ 2002's About a Boy. It, too, proved to effectively capture my brother.
I once detested lead actor Hugh Grant because of his infidelity to gorgeous ─ absolutely magnificent ─ Elizabeth Hurley, but I have grown mellow and am now able to enjoy his performances on screen.
A supporting actress in About a Boy was Toni Collette ─ I quickly recognized her, for my brother and I currently watch the T.V. series United States of Tara; but even when I pointed this out to my brother, he could not lay claim to the same recognition of the actress.
The movie kept us up and watching T.V. until well past 1:30 a.m. before we called it a night. I made a Facebook post just a few minutes past 2 a.m., but I do not believe I remained up for much longer.
By dawn, I was having some difficulty sleeping ─ actually, my body was throbbing from the aftereffects of drinking so much and keeping such a late night. However, I did not rise for the morning until after 9 a.m., if I am remembering correctly. My brother was somewhat later.
By the way, my wife did text me last night from wherever she was celebrating New Year's Eve and the arrival of New Year's Day. The text came at 12:18 a.m.
Adorned with an icon of a red heart, another of a pair of wine glasses, and a third of a nose-maker were the words, "Happy New years".
As well, "Thank you for all the love" ─ further adorned with another red heart icon, and two icons of supplicating hands.
However, I did not see the text until after my brother and I had quit T.V. for the night, so I replied back at 1:54 a.m. She was still up, and so she texted me in similar vein.
But getting back to this morning, after my brother was up for the day, I tuned in a video from yesterday uploaded to Rumble by Children's Health Defense.
And after it, I tuned in one by Dr. Mercola that was nearly 1½ hours in length (1:22:07): How Oxalates Can Wreck Your Health- Interview with Sally K. Norton.
It had been uploaded to BitChute on December 28.
The interview has both my brother and I uncomfortable, for it is no easy matter to change one's diet so dramatically. And in my case, I have to eat what my wife prepares ─ but quite apart from not being in full control of my diet, I do not have the finances that would allow me to eat a largely carnivore diet.
With the arrival of the noon hour, my brother readied himself and left for the day to socialize ─ I do not understand how he is able to manage such a feat. I had to have a bit of a nap following a meal, but I still feel shaky and rather enfeebled ─ I cannot countenance any sort of activity today.
In truth, I have been hankering for further drink ─ even before noon I was considering it. I want to rid myself of the anxiety that has been building as the afternoon wears on and darkness approaches.
I nurtured some idea of maybe embarking upon a long walk after dark ─ or maybe going to bed early and having one in the wee a.m. hours. Alas, though, I am just too besieged by last night's excesses of drink and lateness.
So I am going to put our Android TV Box to use to allow me to watch a sappy Christmas movie with which to assuage my unease through the ingestion of some more drink. I have a mickey of Scotch that my stepsons gave me for Christmas ─ when better to sample it but into the nearly fully declined afternoon?
