Crucible of Civilization

Last evening's television entertainment via our Android TV Box included an episode of FBI: Most Wanted ─ this one was season three's episode 17 ("Covenant"). I was watching alone because I had plans to rise at 1:45 a.m. to ready for a five-mile walk, so I needed to get to bed reasonably early and avoid my younger brother's homecoming following his daily socializing.

I was to rise as planned, but I never got the chance to weigh myself before leaving ─ one of my idiot stepsons had apparently been out and only arrived home a little past 2 a.m., to my vast annoyance.

I had to sneak away unnoticed ─ these walks are my affair alone.

It was 2:14 a.m., and I wore a sleeveless hoodie under a sleeveless denim jacket ─ it was only slightly cool out, and muggy.

Early into the walk I made the usual stop at an elementary school playground for six sets of pull-ups and chin-ups, matching what has become my norm for repetitions ─ four in the first set, and two in each of the remaining five sets.

And of course, I held the final pull-up at highest elevation for a 10-count (actually, the count is more of a 12-count).

There was not much else worth reporting about the walk, except that I got back home especially late ─ maybe 4:24 a.m. The delay was because when I was cutting past the elementary school, I saw a pallet that had been discarded there. Initially I passed it, but then on a whim decided to carry it home.

The distance was maybe four blocks ─ but that pallet fast became a most cumbersome weight! Even so, I did not give up, and finally made it here.

It was possibly 5:40 a.m. by the time I returned to bed ─ maybe even later, but I honestly do not recall.

Around 8:15 a.m. I became suspicious that my brother was already up and watching T.V. downstairs, so I soon decided to rise as well.

Around mid-morning he invited me to put our Android TV Box to work, so I tuned in Odessa Orlewicz's video from yesterday. It proved quite interesting at nearly 1¼ hours long (1:12:21): BROKEN- Senior Care Homes in Canada. Lobbying; Skimming; And the Elite Getting Richer.

BROKEN- Long-Term Care in Canada. Interview With Kathy Pearsall & Alessandro . Link to Kathy's book: https://a.co/d/dE7UMCL

“A powerful indictment of the care elders in Canada receive in long-term care homes, where staff and residents alike have been abandoned by a failed and underfunded system. Filled with passion and compassion, Broken presents a scathing picture of the current reality, particularly brutal in for-profit centres. Thankfully, Kathy Pearsall lays out a clear path to change, one we must embrace as our society ages and we commit to providing safe and dignified care for all. I thoroughly endorse this important book.”

- Maude Barlow, Activist and Author

"This is the book of books, much like a BIBLE: it details the Long Term Care System; how we as Canada got here, and what needs to be done to turn this disaster around. A very personal moving read! A masterpiece, I have read it 4 times and keep it near by for reference all the time. I have used it to educate and help others through the painful journey of loss. Kathy, does an amazing job of cutting through all the crap; a well researched book and a "must have and a must read" IF you are going to try to talk about Long Term Care and the corruption, conflicts of interest and sad breakdown in Canada. God protect our seniors!!!"

“Kathy has given us an arsenal of information and evidence. Let us take up her call to action.”

– Natalie Mehra, Executive Director, Ontario Health Coalition

The video is also available at this Rumble link.

We also watched an episode of Rumble's The Why Files channel ─ the 36-minute video had been uploaded back on November 24: From Amityville to Annabelle | The Truth of Ed and Lorraine Warren's Scariest Case.

Ed and Lorraine Warren are maybe the most famous paranormal investigators in history.

They've worked on more than 10,000 cases. Some of which have been made into books and movies. The Conjuring films are based on the work of the Warrens.

Today we'll look at a few of their scariest, most disturbing cases and find the truth.

So turn off the lights and put the little ones to bed. It's going to get spooky.

Not bad at all!

We concluded with the third and final instalment (at 55 minutes) of the 2000 documentary Empires: The Greeks - Crucible of Civilization that I had previously recorded from YouTube's AgeOfAntiquity channel where the series was titled The Ancient Greeks: Crucible of Civilization.

My brother thereafter had some lengthy bed rest, for he would be busing away to rendezvous with one or more drinking buddies at a pub. I had my day's first meal meantime, and became quite involved in online correspondence.

I sought a nap before my brother emerged from his room and left for the day, but it was still relatively late into the early afternoon. When I later rose, I did not feel at all rested. I likely would have done some sunning regardless, but I found the afternoon sky to be riddled with thick haze and even some fleeting clouds.

It was enough to deter me ─ for the second consecutive day now.

It is well past 7 p.m. at present, so I want to bring this post to a close because I have another early a.m. walk intended. I only wish to mention that after stripping down for my early evening bath yesterday, I weighed 185 pounds.

Oh! ─ one more thing!

My wife returns tomorrow after being away since her early evening flight of (I believe) January 23 to first Rome where she visited a sister who lives there; and then from Rome early in April she flew over to Thailand to visit her mother and other family and friends.

So she will have been gone nearly six months!
